Pre-dinner drinks at last night's reunion were held in The Combination Room at St John's College. The longest room outside of London (93ft), it was used as the meeting place for planning the D-Day landings as it was large enough to lay out the plans and fairly safe - Cambridge and Heidelberg being 'protected' from bombing in a mutual agreement. It is authentically Tudor inside with no window dressings or electricity. Of course candle light doesn't make for the easiest photo but as it's not open to the public, I wanted to give a taste of what it's like inside. I took this from about the middle of the room. We had a lovely night, meeting old friends but my photos are a bit useless - even the ones I took before the second wine came round....
This is simply marvelous! Love the history of this remarkable place. What an incredible location for your reunion cocktail hour. So glad you had such a wonderful evening with your old college friends!
