I got all excited tonight and took my tripod out to do some night shots. I couldn't park where I wanted to and had to try some different places. The town was disappointingly unilluminated but I've got a few ideas - I need to try Wednesday late night shopping for more lights and wait until the clocks change so that the colleges will still have their doors open...and take Nigel with me so I can go down a few more alleyways (but before you all tell me off the main town is very busy with students after dark so I was in safe areas). I've added a 'scary film' effect from Picnik to this for a bit of atmosphere but the original was technically not bad (to my uneducated eye) - just a tad boring.
@phil_howcroft Not quite B&W - though I liked it completely B&W it got the thumbs down from Adam who was the only one home - this one has a bit of colour left in. I really like these Halloween effects Picnik have at the moment - they can be quite effective faded out - shame they are only for this month!
Very atmospheric shot , I must try one of those Halloween effects myself !! The dark corners, the shadows & the lines are all very interesting !!! Look forward to your night shots with anticipation Judith !! Will Nigel go with you ...good man!!!
love this Judith - great shadows and tones. There are some great side streets off the market square at night where the cobbles and old brick work come alive - but is a good idea to take Nigel! http://365project.org/sparkle/365/2010-12-29 here's one i took back in December
@sparkle I took a few shots from just where you were standing (needless to say I was all organised when a car came down and I had to move!) - I needed an interesting human in it though like you had. I'll try some more as it was fun - I remembered The Eagle courtyard as well but I had an appointment sanity checking English coursework to get back to. There's a great website with some beautiful night shots but mostly they're in colleges & you have to get special permission to use a tripod.
@judithg well if you take Nigel he could qualify as an "Interesting human" LOL I was with @louisewilson4 when we were there and we were framing shots until this bloke turned up. he did us a favour but was rather rude at the way he plonked himself right in front of us!!
@sparkle How very rude - can't have been local ;0) My problem was more people trying to be helpful by NOT getting into the shots. Good thinking on use of Nigel as prop - he's feeling guilty about excessive weekend karate events so now's the time to announce my strategy!
Great B+W. Love the sl green tones of the doors, all looks very stmospheric and inviting. Just needs a bottle of wine on one of the tables and I'll be there!
I love the atmosphere of this - fav for me :)! I was scared a bit on numerous occasions riding home in Cambridge because the streets were deserted after ten o' clock...
Very atmospheric indeed
