Nice to be back after the Virgin fault last night! I missed everybody and hope to catch up tonight after another day of Governor duties.
I took Monty back to Wicken Fen yesterday so we could go inside the reserve - now I've realised they let dogs in. I find it very hard to photograph and capture its unique atmosphere especially with a VERY impatient dog who really wasn't in the mood for stopping yesterday. So I've gone for the classic windmill shot - this is a very small water-pumping example. There used to be hundreds of these pumping water out of the land for farming - now they use modern ones for pumping it back in to keep the land wet and squishy.
And guess what? Having posted the 'Bicycle Ambulance' for sick bikes I saw two bicycle ambulances for sick people yesterday. It must be a new venture as they looked very sparkly and new with enormous amounts of reflective stuff and very heavy looking panniers. Great idea so long as nobody steals the bikes while they are attending to patients.
judith love the composition and the post processing, you've given it a very warm and cosy feeling with your post processing
Looks a great place to photograph. I saw an AV of Wicken Fen at our camera club on Monday (by a photographer named Barry Beckham...he does stunning AV's...he wasn't at our club, someone just liked his work). The AV was called Jack Frost , You can find it in the second url........ it creates a zip file and then an executable file, but it is safe to download ...i've downloaded it.
@phil_howcroft Thanks Phil - I'm glad it's cosy - we used to have a children's story book about Wicken that gave it a cosy glow! Thanks for the link too - I'll enjoy that later when I've got time to do it justice. I made a 'Smilebox' of Rachel doing a karate competition once (to Kung Foo Fighting needless to say!) - it was fun but I don't seem to find the time - maybe this will inspire me! I think the thing about WIcken is to go there for dawn (preferably) or dusk in the winter. It's a good half hour drive from Cambridge but I suspect I wouldn't be disappointed if I could get up early and get myself out there with a tripod and some warm clothes!!
Just like a fen photo should look !!! I don't know your part of the world at all & have only ever been to Cambridge once in my life so it's very enlightening to see these lovely places !!! The light on the grasses here & the white sails in the sunlight against the sky is very atmospheric! I presume there is water beside that windmill , I think I can see a little bridge !! Lovely Judith !
Oh that's fabulous and a fave! The composition, the sky, the layers of texture and colour in the field, the placing of the windmill all come together to perfection.
@happypat Yes - there are loads of little canals. The water is very clear but the soil is very black Fen soil (think Fylde) so they look black when you look into them. Monty will not drink out of the lodes and often leaps backwardsif he leans over them - maybe it's his reflection but they freak him out a bit.
caught up with you on the PP again...for some reason you're not on my feeds!! love the mood to this - don't kjnwo how you've processed this - but whatever you've done works really well - nice one Judith
