Thanks for your nice comments on yesterday's picture. I decided I'd like to do a few B&W pics and I thought the textures in this would work but in the end it seemed a shame to lose the colours. While I was taking this a young man on a bike stopped and asked me if I was taking anything incriminating. I said, 'Just the ropes' and he said, 'Oh OK' and cycled off looking a bit embarrassed. Of course then I wondered what on earth incriminating there was to take - a bit of river, a few swans, a novice rower? Unfortunately the distraction meant that I didn't 'bob down' as much as I intended for this shot (difficult as the barges are much lower than the path and Monty was tangling himself up in the ropes and trying to bomb my photo. Still - at least I got the reflection from this angle.
Makes you wonder what they're transporting... The colours definitely add to this - probably because there's a limited number. Good choice to go with colour.
So glad this is in colour !! A vibrant scene & love the cropping you've done too ! Why do we always have that guilty feeling even though doing nothing wrong...do you think it is our ''big brother'' attitude ?
Maybe he thought you were the police and had found a body in the water? Weird story... The texture of the rope is very nice and colour was a good choice!
@happypat@fueast@jannaellen It was very strange - I assumed it was his boat or a friend's but people photograph the barges all the time - and really there was nothing to see where I was looking except these ropey things.
This reminds me of a mummy... ;-)
I'm sorry you had this unpleasant experience with the young man asking you these questions. Don't you just hate it? Once it happened to me that was taking a picture of a tulip in garden, and a woman who lived in that house - obviously drunk - screamed at me and threatened to beat me up, and she called me the worst names you can imagine. People like these ruin all the fun for photographers.
I had a similar thing when I took my hen photo - the owner of them came running up to me and asked what I was doing and why didn't I ask first....I just didn't think there would be a problem photographing hens....he didn't believe that I was just doing it for me.......and told me to clear off! Now I'm wondering which of the chickens was hiding something?
@shadowdancer@judecurran are people completely mad?! There are people setting up hideous sites where you can take your revenge on ex-partners by posting dodgy videos and we we don't seem to be able to close them down and then there are insane peopleh worrying about you exploiting their tulips and hens!! This chap wasn't being aggressive it was just bizarre - I could understand if I was anywhere near a window or something....
I really like your 'risky' rope shot! I'm glad you kept it in colour :) The comments you've had about mad people who are very sensitive about their flowers and birds made me smile!!
lovely reflections and colours, and wonderful textures in the ropes - too many people totally paranoid about photographers taking pictures of them or theirs
It's almost abstract Judith, I love the colours and reflections..... glad to see Ur thinking of using the ' bob down' technique ....I use it often as shots from low down really emphasise the subject .... one other technique I've used is camera on the floor too....even more emphasis on the floor....although not recommended when beside a canal with a furry friend !

nope, no idea unless there be something untoward below the surface.
