Cruet set by judithg

Cruet set

I went to a pop up cafe today for lunch with a friend. It's a cafe cum art installation which has opened for one month only in an empty shop unit in town. This 'item' was holding the salt and pepper set. Eagle-eyed amongst you will spot Action Man's body under the dress. I ordered the ruffage plate (spinach, beetroot, pumpkin seeds and feta) with the talking special. The special involved being quizzed on whether we had ever been to any sort of summer fair as children (it turns out my friend Katie once went to a school fete dressed as a washing machine whilst blowing bubbles through the door...) with a follow-up in which the waitress told us about her road trip to Memphis.
Sounds like lunch turned into an experience! Fun!

@jlhopgood Oooh how rude!!
May 10th, 2012
Sounds fab - did you report tales of the Preston Guild?
May 10th, 2012
sounds fun!

A good way to get the discussion on gender going ;). This place is sounding better and better. Too bad they are only there for a little bit.

@jannaellen Well the transvestite sipping his tea looked quite comfortable.. @fueast Forgot about that - St Leonard's walking Day: best dress, posey of flowers, attached to other children by ribbons and the A6 closed.

@judithg My idea of a nightmare as a kid! I spent years trying to avoid these things.

This looks a fun place to go
May 10th, 2012
Fetes that is - not cafes where I would spend all day if I could. I really need to get in a Bruccianis pic before then end of my project.
May 10th, 2012
@fueast I don't think I may have retired at about age 4! I keep expecting @happypat to treat us to a Bruccianis pic - there was a very regular flow of 'dinner money' from me to them at one point!
May 10th, 2012
@judithg Thats why dinner money was invented! Mind you the coffee was bloody awful
May 10th, 2012
Great fun - and an unusual subject for your shot!
May 10th, 2012
@fueast Goodness me how do you know about Bruccianis, are you a Preston girl Alison ?
May 10th, 2012
@happypat I am indeed. Spent a large part of my youth in that cafe.
May 10th, 2012
@judithg Well there is only one answer to that I will have to go & get a photo of the famous Bruccianis !!!! Still much the same by the looks of it & it took some of my pocket money too although we weren't allowed to go in there on our own after school in our school uniform !
Yours sounds an interesting cafe & must have been very entertaining having a transvestite action man dispensing the salt & pepper !!!
May 10th, 2012
@judithg Was the transvestite customer or installation? :0
May 10th, 2012
Sounds like fun experience! You got a good shot out of it. :)
May 10th, 2012
@fueast Well I never , small world !!!
May 10th, 2012
@meisen325 Well there was the transvestite cruet stand and a transvestite customer (I don't believe he's a permanent installation but you never know!) He did look very relaxed which must often not be the case - it's sad that this off the wall, everything goes sort of place is so temporary!
May 10th, 2012
@happypat Quite right! I was in Sixth form so was generally in there in pixie boots and leg-warmers!
May 10th, 2012
@happypat I would be interested in a report on the coffee quality!
May 10th, 2012
@judithg @fueast I shall make it my mission to go in there specially next time I am in Preston & do a Egon Ronay style report !!! Also take some under cover photos !!!
May 10th, 2012
@happypat Hurrah!!!
May 10th, 2012
Hilarious!!!
May 10th, 2012

May 10th, 2012

May 11th, 2012

May 11th, 2012

May 26th, 2012
