My neighbour called by yesterday to tell us that he'd chased away a drunk who had been stealing roses off the plant by our front door. He must have been drunk because it's not at all at its best. He also pointed out that we had a cherry left on our tree so when I returned from very grumpily delivering Rachel to karate training this evening I thought I'd eat it. Very nice - and I looked up to see this fella and his partner also enjoying my cherry tree. This was using my macro conversion thing - very difficult focus with the branch waving around and it's not spot on but it's saved my bacon as 13th August was about to be a filler day!! A picture of the pair may appear in Extras because it's not often I find grasshoppery things on my cherry tree.
A bush cricket......aren't they lovely? All green and squidgy! lol This one is really tilting his head and giving you the eye. :-) Yeah , name and shame the rose/cherry thieves of Cambridge!!
@happypat I've had those bush crickets up on my first floor flat windowsills - they do get high - and it's the antennae are so much longer than the body in crickets
@Cherrill I think it's a speckled bush cricket and there are some spectacular photos on t'internet of them flying - the wings seem to be hidden underneath. @happypat
@judithg I cherry on the whole tree?! I bought some very expensive cherries from tesco today very nice they were too but all the way from the USA, not exactly local!
@melaniesavage No - lots of blossom, loads fertilised and then about half fell off. Then more... So about 8 ripened. I've eaten 3 and the birds had the rest but they are very young trees so I think next year we should get more - that's why cherries are expensive!
Well done! Tough to catch these little guys! Shame about your cherry. I have been eating pounds of them - on sale for $1.88 a pound...haven't a clue how to figure out how much that is for you but it is cheap for us!
Fabulous shot of this happy looking fellow. Glad you got the last cherry before he did. :) Your flower thief is kinder than mine...on two occasions I've had entire potted plants, pots and all, taken from beside my front door. :(
