As I type a crazy man is going up in to outer space in a helium-filled crisp-packet thick balloon in order to parachute back down. He seems to have good views but I'll stay on terra firma for my celestial wonder. The most amazing, brightest rainbow I have EVER seen - sadly I couldn't get it all in as I was stuck in deepest suburbia but it was certainly a 'wow'. There was a second outer rainbow and actually about 5 distinct spectra (spectrums? spectra sounds like ghosts) on the inside of this one.
Three good things:
1. Crazy brave men - hope he's OK.
2. Natural wonders.
3. The fact that when the dog escapes out of the front door when we are admiring rainbows he always goes next door!!
A fabulous shot of a vivid rainbow - good capture. (We sat in the departure lounge waiting to board the plane and watching the item about that parachutist on the TV kindly provided - not much else provided, a bar with various delicacies but no staff to sell us anything!)
@fueast He did a trial at 97,000 but he's going right to the edge of the stratosphere. The last person who jumped was 103,000 feet in 1960. @cwebb So do I - his mum was crying!
Stunning shot Judith! Saw a similar intense one the other day, ran upstairs with camera, no memory card, rushed down again to get it, upstairs again ready to shoot but rainbow had faded away! Chap at over 100,000 ft (metres?) now, got to get to 400,000!
beautiful judith, it's fabulous that you were able to capture this and share it with your 365 friends....that's what makes photography a wonderful medium .....we catch moments and share them :)
@jgpittenger The sky's a weird colour don't you think? Not edited - maybe just because it co- incided with sunset - the sky in all directions was amazing - I just needed to live on your mountain to get a good shot!
What a spectacular rainbow! It looks like it was caught right between two distinct air fronts. Very cool.
The Felix Baumgarten dive totally fascinates me...the feat itself is amazing. But the guy's psyche really captivates me ~ the 'who' and 'why' of it all.
Does Monty have a lady friend next door?
@peggysirk He's always liked to go next door because he spends a lot of time watching squirrels and cats through the gaps in the fence. He could also get through the decrepit fence on the other side and make his way through the neighbours' gardens which caused us major stress as we couldn't get at him and he knew it! Then Arthur the Golden Retriever arrived next door-but-one and he thought it was Christmas when Monty arrived through the fence for a game. But both have been thwarted by a new posh and impenetrable fence which is a major relief to those of us who go in hot pursuit!
@judithg It all reminds me of the tales of a curious little Scottie, I think his name was Angus, I read (over and over again by popular demand) to my girls when they were little. Glad Monty doesn't go far when he makes his escape .:)
Gorgeous rainbow shot - As you live in Cambridge, I am wondering if you know where CAB in Devonshire road is. I shall be coming to Park & Ride tomorrow Tues from A603 via M11. Which bus should I take from Park & Ride and is it far to walk from where ever the bus stops? Sorry to ask but I suddenly thought you might know
@rosiekind I don't know much about the Park and Ride buses but it isn't terribly far from the railway station and I'm sure the buses will go down to there? If you get off on Station Road you will see a huge building going up on the corner of Tenison Road (Microsoft's new building) - head down there and turn right onto Devonshire Road at the YHA and you'll come to the CAB. I think that will be quicker and easier than approaching from Mill Road but if you do go that way you need a Citi 2 I think. I haven't seen the CAB since it moved from it's previous location but I'm assuming their map is correct. It's not too far to walk from Station Road - 10 minutes? http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/bureaumap.htm?pc=CB1+2BL

And your rainbow is amazing! I like that it's a suburban view, cool!
Oh and number 3 made me laugh :)
