How often do we express love by baking? Quite a lot - which probably explains the obesity problem! It's nice to have students to bake for because they are all young and skinny although I'm sad because Rachel is going back tomorrow. It's been lovely having her home. I've been on a bake-a-thon because I thought I'd make jammy dodgers (see above - home made jam to boot - hope you're impressed!) and ninjabread men (with vanilla biscuit because Rachel doesn't like gingerbread but then the name doesn't work) but then she looked all sad because I hadn't made oaty cookies so I had to do those as well.... And I'd also had a request for chocolate brownies which I MESSED up - which is impossible but I did it.
Three good things:
1. Adam is showing signs of improving (he's raiding the snack cupboard) after being pole-axed most of the day.
2. A kitchen full of lovely girlies.
3. Rachel has honed her 'fleece mum in the supermarket before I go back' technique - this isn't a good thing for me but I was worrying about her intelligence last time!
Haha! Love number 3! Wonderful jammy dodgers! How clever to do these so beautifully. Do you cook them with the jam in or assemble them after cooking? Lucky Rachel taking all those home-made biccies back.
You are quite right, we tend to make what our loved ones like! We then get the thanks and adoring looks! These look yummy particularly knowing the jam is home made!
@lesleyallen I didn't make enough to try but the middles are nice! @tishpics Assembled afterwards - you're supposed to make the 'jam from raspberries and other things but I just used jam!
lovely shot and yup ive been making a chocolate brownies they beg me to use the james martins recipie tots chocky overload but then i dont eat cake or biscuits so yes so its for love for sure
jammie dodgers are my fave biscuit judith and yours look delicious here.....well " the supermarket before I go back' was mandatory in our house....always prompted by my wife (Jane) ....I was amazed how many toilet rolls she used to buy too...a giant pack ....I used to say are you buying for the 'whole hall;...although it will be sad tomorrow you will look back at them as happy days in 3 or 4 years time !
great shot Judith - now compare to my shot - you should have had pork stir fry tonight...did you?? (tee hee!) these do look very tasty - I'll definitiely get the recipe from you. I made granola bars which are very tasty, but they don't photograph as well as this! LOL to the supermarket fleece by Rachel - it's the law that your Mum has to buy the term's food before you go back, didn't you know?
Know how you feel.....Matt is on his way today, going to miss him, love all the yummies......not sending any edibles back with him as the customs men just don't get the mummy love thing!
Total yumminess, my favourite biccie. I actually bought a homemade one from the farmers' market just before Christmas (looked a little like these) and it was fab. Can you send me some please ... ?
You're really spoiling her. But in a good way! I really need to learn how to bake so I'll be able to bake with Josephine some day. Those look sooo delicious!
@jannaellen Oh yes it's essential - many a happy hour to be had with cooky cutters. Top tip (as taught me by my mum after some frustrating events) is to make the dough first and then just let the little ones do rolling, cutting and decoration (or when they're really little skip straight to the decorating and eating!!!)
Gorgeous Jammy Dodgers...and I love that name, which is new to me! It sounds like you have been busy, busy in the kitchen! Know you hate to see Rachel head back to school. But, spring break (do you have those in the UK?) is just around the corner!
@peggysirk Yes we have Easter holidays & Nigel has just told me that she's coming home in 3 weeks to see him presented with his 3rd dan black belt - I resisted saying that's too soon! Last time I was prepared for her going - this time it seemed to creep up and we had lovely hols.
wow, that's a lot of baking - these look fab - how did you get them to look so perfect? - would you mind if I used your picture on my Adventure Island blog where there is an ongoing discussion about biscuits which features jammy dodgers in a big way?
@helenmoss Great British Bake off 'Show stoppers' vanilla biscuit recipe combined with their idea for jammy dodgers (which they make with ground almonds which were all hideously our of date in my cupboard!) But the vanilla biscuits held their shape really well. Had to make them big because my smallest cutter wasn't all that small! Borrow away for your blog - excellent topic for discussion!!
