First impressions

I valiantly stepped out this afternoon into the frozen tundra of Cambridge with canine and camera on a photo mission. And then on arrival at the park I spotted a friend who works away from Cambridge a lot of time so I diverted off to walk with her and had a lovely catch up instead. Her gorgeous dog found himself a golden retriever shaped, muddy ice bath and wriggled around in it so I did get a picture of his filthy belly but in the end I went for this scene which caught my eye on the way to the park. The bike was leaning rather randomly on an odd wall in a very unromantic spot but the box (which was irritating me) turns out to have contained a razor so I'm thinking somebody was definitely trying to impress.
Thanks so much for all the good wishes for my neighbour. His son says he's doing OK and the damage has been temporarily patched up (at midnight last night!)
Three good things:
1. A Monty cuddle
2. Pies for tea
3. Free cups of coffee from Waitrose
This shot tells a really interesting story - very lovely, especially in b&w. Glad to hear your neighbour is ok. We were surprised by epic amounts of snow today, will be posting pictures later. Crazy weather!

Great capture...enjoy your pie! 'Tiz Siberian indeed! :)

beautiful shot! love the black and white tone and lighting!

Strange things to leave in a bike basked, but they made for an interesting shot for you.

good news to hear of your neighbour.

nice catch here ..

I am amazed that the bottle was still there! A bike capture with a difference. Like the composition and sharp b/w.
March 12th, 2013
That's an interesting find. There's a story there.
Like the b&w. :)
March 12th, 2013
Nice capture! I wouldn't mind a little of the bubbly! :)
March 12th, 2013
Splendid find...and a great use of the basket (not sure about the razor though)!
March 12th, 2013
Was this lovely bottle just sitting there waiting for someone to help themselves?
March 12th, 2013
i really like this classic street shot (sans people)...lol - - really like the b/w
March 12th, 2013
Aha, so you have a mywaitrose card too!! I imagine the happy pair are sleeping off the fizz and he will retrieve the razor for use later!
March 12th, 2013
Really? You can leave a bottle of Moet in the street and noone will take it? That must rebalance the universe a bit after yesterday.
March 12th, 2013
@tishpics you are so observant, i just thought without further examination that it was an unopened bottle!! Bizarre and where does the razor come in? Odd place you live !!!!!!!!!
March 12th, 2013
@jennywren @busylady @fueast Empty - absolutely no way alcohol would be left unstolen in that part of town!
March 12th, 2013
@judithg oooooooh! that makes more sense....
March 12th, 2013
Good thing nobody burgled this bottle!!! Am guessing Monty didn't have room in the puddle or you probably wouldn't be cuddling!
March 12th, 2013
What a random selection of goods. Had the razor been used? I think we should be told :)
March 12th, 2013
I thought it looked empty, so someone has had a good night....a clean shaven someone...stranger & stranger!!! There are some odd goings on in Cambridge, I blame the youth! Only jealous really!!
March 12th, 2013
Yes I dyed the fabric in the microwave last year - a real fun class and easy to do. Yes, I'll be in Cambridge on Thursday, and I'm happy to meet somewhere for a coffee. I can be there about 11, you say where.
March 12th, 2013
super monochrome judith ...... champagne and razor blades , I googled it ...a song by an american group ...Hot Chelle Rae......

There's an awful pun to be had but i can't think of one ...

I'm going to be a champagne snob now and say I prefer Piper Heidsieck to Moet Chandon ....oh and Piper Heidsieck bottle labels are far more photogenic., but perhaps "Moet Chandon" was "the best a man could get" in Cambridge :)

@phil_howcroft Where I found this it's a miracle it isn't Special Brew.
March 12th, 2013
@busylady I have an idea but I can't say because I'm sworn to secrecy! I'll get Katharine's mobile and text you both!
March 12th, 2013
@malc Actually I didn't know what it was till I enlarged the photo - I was too busy wondering if I could remove it for a photo as it was oraange!
March 12th, 2013
Cool shot! Your title is perfect and I agree with others: the picture really tells a story!
March 12th, 2013
Great capture and composition.
March 12th, 2013
I guess if I'd looked more closely I'd have noticed there was no stopper in the bottle. @judithg Ok - I'll look forward to it.
March 12th, 2013
Nice casual shot.
March 13th, 2013
I like this one.
March 13th, 2013
It looks like someone had a nice date! Excellent find, Judith. I would have been so tempted to remove the box, but included it actually makes a more interesting story.

I hope you saved some pie for Pi Day, 3.14! (but maybe that means nothing to you, it being 14.3 over there. Just call it an irrational holiday and have some pie!)
March 13th, 2013
I really like your focus and edit
March 13th, 2013
@anwan Oh I like that - you're right it doesn't work quite so naturally here but I'm sure the maths types will turn it around!
March 13th, 2013
I was surprised to see the bottle still in the basket, I wonder if someone had taken it out and drank the contents ? So glas to hear your neighbour is coping OK
March 13th, 2013
Haha. Cool.
March 13th, 2013
Great little slice of someone's life in that basket. Glad your neighbour is on the mend xx
March 13th, 2013
I love the story this photo tells. And I noticed after one quick thought that the bottle was open! I'm glad things are improving for your neighbor.
March 13th, 2013
You could make up a whole story to go along with that scene. Another to add to your bike collection!
