Not 100% happy with the focus here but I couldn't really see what I was doing. The new winter coat doesn't facilitate squatting down too well. Anyway - these are my friend Rebecca's daffodils. She doesn't know I snuck into her garden to take the photo but she does stalk me now and again so she might find out... There was simultaneously a thaw underway and snow coming down quite heavily when I took this.
Three good things:
1. I bumped into Rebecca out dog walking this afternoon so it cheered up part of my walk.
2. Monty seemed content with a fairly short and boring trip out.
3. I spoke to my neighbour's daughter and we have found the previous occupant of our house on behalf of my mystery letter writer. In fact she is married to somebody we know quite well - it's a small world! Hopefully she will connect Terry (our writer) with her older brother who may well remember Terry. It turns out that my neighbours on both sides and across the road also had lots of lodgers during the 50's and 60's - I wonder if interest rates went up because they all seemed to be struggling with mortgages. But they all also talk about really carefree and happy childhoods. No gadgets, central heating, cars or material things but loads of freedom and friends.

It seems like winter just isn't ready to go just yet. It spit snow here yesterday, but thankfully didn't stick. Daffs are so bright and cheerful even when they are covered with snow.
At least your daffs are still upright - ours seem to have taken a turn for the worst! This is a lovely shot and nicely framed. Good news about the letter writer!
Ah, like me sometimes I just hold the camera down low on autofocus and hope!!just in case I can't get up again!!! This worked just fine!! Extraordinary about the letter writer, a small world indeed!
Oh the fifties & sixties where the best years specially musically! these poor daffs look weighed down with snow but their stems are holdingup tall & proud.
A wonderful bit of detective work Judith by you & your neighbours, tery will be delighted!
Your framing & presentation is spot on!
Very nice greetings card - poor daffodils, I think there cannot be many years when they are weighted down with snow like this. (I'm beginning to feel deprived!)
Amazing how the snow is so heaped and they've still managed to keep their heads. Beautiful but Springy in no way at all...just want some reasonable weather now please! xx

The news about the former owners is great. Good sleuthing!
