A rose by any other name

Another day without visiting anywhere interesting so I've roped in a half dead rose. People do marvellous things with half dead flowers. I have ETSOOI'd mine and for some reason I like it better upside down. It seems likely that I have completely lost the plot. Still - lots of good things today:
1. The sun (yes, sun) made a brief but welcome appearance this morning (snow flurries in the afternoon not so welcome)
2. I have managed to book a couple of special things for my sister's belated birthday meet up in London on Tuesday thus averting panic (it's amazing how many things you have to book months in advance - how do you know what you'll be doing so far ahead?)
3. Having failed to book the David Bowie exhibition at the V&A which is sold out for its ENTIRE RUN except on Sundays I called the Box Office because I didn't understand why only Sundays would have tickets and she said they had just added some extra evening sessions - so I booked for Nigel and me to go in June (yes, I know - months ahead ;0) ).
4. After trying approximately 400 test pots we have finally chosen some paint colours for the hallway.
5. Monty has had a haircut.
6. Oh - and I forgot on Wednesday to mention my friend being all over the radio and TV talking about FIFA governance and sexism - she got off the plane in the US and was greeted by lots of supportive e-mails from British fans telling her to keep going.
this is so beautiful! love the lighting and that beautiful red!

Beautiful low key...and yours looks less dead than mine ;o) Good to have so many good things including sunshine! Still elusive as ever down our way xx
March 29th, 2013
Lovely composition. You have given it life with your lighting.
Only 400 test pots! It's a nightmare choosing.
March 29th, 2013
Well i have had to throw out my dead flowers as the b&bs might wonder where they were staying! Yours is gorgeous and a beautiful colour still!!
March 29th, 2013
I LOVE the commentary.....hilarious read!!!! I did wonder why the rose was upside down but if it suits you........400 tests!!!!!!!!! I don't think our paint shop has 400 anything!!!
March 29th, 2013
a lovely rose judith...monty and his new haircut must feature tomorrow :) ....we don't have dog / hair problems with a whippet !
March 29th, 2013
Gorgeous. Wow, do I ever have a lot of catching up to do!
March 29th, 2013
Six good things Judith...you are very blessed today!!!! Pots of tester are quite expensive ...it's a pity we can't sell them on or perhaps have a used paint tester pot service!!! I need to get some for my sitting room then I am ready as soon as he rings! Trouble is we pick a colour then the decorator wants to use Johnstones paint...he gets a discount which he does pass on but we have to try & pick the identical colour we have picked from the pots....the disadvantage from having a decorator probably!!
Lovely rose with perfect DOF .... glorious rich colour!
Love your words & chat!

@happypat I was using 'posh' paints but the test pots are ridiculously expensive - you could paint most of a wall with the Sanderon ones. So I switched to Dulux & Crown & the Dulux ones have been on offer at 50p each including a brush! Now I have to go out to one of the villages & get them all made up in trade paint (on some random account or other!) for the decorator. He says it will go on a lot better. My mum's cousin used to work for Johnsons & the whole family would paint their rooms in whatever dodgy tins she was allowed to buy at discount!

@ruthmouch Well probably 25ish - but that's a lot of going to the paint shop!
March 29th, 2013
Beautiful shot.
March 29th, 2013
Beautiful closeup.

@judithg Oh funny Judith ...I rather like Farrow & Ball but find them a bit of a nightmare to put on & the man would certain;y not want to use them. We have sitting room red or some such on our dining room wall & Setting plaster on the kitchen ...I do like the names but will probably pick one of the different whites & stones & then try & match up.

@happypat They are nice - and our decorator would lose half his Cambridge work if he refused F&B (!) but I just couldn't bring myself to keeo spending >£3 per pot and then not like any of them on the wall!
March 29th, 2013
@judithg i know I only bought two last time & begrudged that!! I really think Dulux etc have some very good colours now ....I think all tester pots should be smaller & free!!!

Beautiful
I am back after months away. Nice to catch up.
March 30th, 2013
Nice shot, Judith. Roses are beautiful even when past their prime.
March 30th, 2013
i agree i like it this way up :)
March 30th, 2013
Just had my computer upside down - not sure which I prefer - lovely shot and processing either way.
March 30th, 2013
Jealous about the David Bowie exhibition, but these days although there are lots of exhibitions I would like to see, the prospect of endless queuing and crowds always puts me off. Poor Monty, fancy getting his hair cut in this weather. Our neighbours' labradoodle has just had the same torture.

Lots of good things; excellent. I am constantly amazed that things sell out - how is everyone else so organised?!
March 30th, 2013
This is a beautiful shot!
March 30th, 2013
You have such an interesting way of recalling you every day life! Good to hear about all your good things. Love the rose btw.
March 30th, 2013
Lovely subdued lighting and great red colour. Hope Monty isn't shivering :)
March 30th, 2013
Beautiful lighting! And six good things must make for a Very Good day!
March 31st, 2013
Your lovely rose looks neither half-dead nor like it's had TSEOOI. I suppose you peeled off the wilted petals like the roadside rose-sellers do? :) I love the selective sharp focus and the overall softness to it.

Congrats on choosing a colour for the hallway, decisions like that are hard!
