I went to Sussex today to pick up some things from mum and dad's before they move. They are really cracking on with the clearing out and it's made me even more aware of the ridiculous amount of 'stuff' we have accumulated. We also had a quick look at the new place from the outside and it looks very nice indeed. Having had a nice chat with Rachel on the way down so that the journey seemed to go quite quickly the return leg started in light snow (the sort that makes your windscreen filthy) turning into an absolute blizzard by the time we had crept through the roadworks (must be at least 10 miles long) and then crawled through several miles of approach to the Dartford Tunnel. Weirdly, given how bad it was when we entered, when we came out of the tunnel it stopped and by the time we got home it was sunny. Definitely a journey of two halves. Anyway - no photos today so back to sunny London - this is on an odd thing near St Martin's in the Fields - maybe somebody knows what it is? Anyway it seemed appropriate for today even though my own home is in dire need of cleaning and tidying.
Three good things:
1. All well with the move so far
2. Time with Rachel
3. Home safely....
Thought this was the name of your mum & dads new pad!!!! What are proper Lancastrians doing down in deepest Sussex...are they coming back nearer home & more importantly nearer you or your sister?
Must be quite odd moving & clearing stuff you have had for years so well done them!!
I keep saying that final move should not be left too late or you never do it! Sounds a nightmare journey & more snow in the south?
@busylady@fueast Yes - Home and Elsewhere- there's a poem going around it including 'Air to Earth, WInd...' I want to say '& Fire' but I don't think that's right! It seems to be round some sort of access thing but you can't get in to it.... Alison it's a long way from Up North - it's proper Down South - and proper blooming snowy!
@happypat They are moving about a mile away from where they are now - and they are 6 miles away from my sister which is how they ended up down there! They moved the week after Rachel was born (quite a stressful time for them!) and stayed with us for a bit on the way down as they couldn't get in the new house. We were in temporary accommodation as well having moved 3 weeks before R arrived. So the kids have only ever been through Preston once on their way back from The Lakes - they didn't seem to want to stay which was a bit sad! It's easier getting up and down to Sussex but it means we don't see the wider family very often which is a shame.
@judithg So sister is on first emergency duty!!!! Nice to not be moving far as obviously they know all around them....Preston is long gone then , just childhood memories!!! Warmer down south too ... allegedly!!
@happypat Allegedly!! Overall better I would say but definitely not today. Well my sister got babysitting and ironing done for a few years and it's not quite payback time yet. She used to say that they would be old and wandering naked down the High Street just as her kids were being stroppy teenagers but her worst fears haven't come to pass - there's time yet though!!
So you are dealing with a parents' move as well. Mine are gradually getting closer to an actual move date. They bought their house up here last December...it's been a slow process.
Nice shot...and as a true southerner, I can vouch it is normally warmer down here than up'north!! @happypat@fueast
I remember clearing out my granny' s flat when we moved her nearer to mum's, there was some really cool and interesting stuff but there was a lot of nonsense too, bin bags full of stuff!
That blizzard earlier was crazy, we had it in London and I could hardly see across the street from the office...I'm not going out any hope for supporting, and summer isn't looking promising!
It must be a nightmare downsizing, I dread moving from here we have gathered so much over the last 25 yrs.It was nice for you to have company on your journey

Nice Use of DoF.
