With the heatwave set to continue I cycled into town for some summer sleep attire. This turns out to be difficult to find - 'we only stock sleep wear at Christmas'... In an unusual move I tried M&S - and as usual they didn't have the size I needed but I have placed an order in desperation. On my way home I waited for ages on Garret Hostel Bridge for Rachel to come by but I didn't see her - no idea why as she was on the river pretty much all day. This is the sort of mess she has to navigate - in this shot pretty much all the punts are obeying the 'drive on the right' rule but it's very unusual - generally at least one or two are busy heading from bank to bank.
Three good things:
1. Alan Johnson's autobiography 'This Boy' - his childhood was the sort of thing you might have expected in the Victorian era not the 1950's/60's. Shame he's no longer active politically as a counterpoint to the Cameron/Milliband 'never had a proper job' brigade.
2. Chris Froome has taken the Tour de France for GB.
3. Mel Smith RIP.
@fueast Fab hols - want to go straight back. I do sleep naked quite often when it's hot but we have to have the bedroom door open for cat reasons and teenage offspring just can't cope with naked parents apparently.
@maggiemae Found a pretty nightie - haven't worn one of those since I gave birth (and pretty wasn't really the word) - was looking for shorts but nowhere to be seen.... Singing punters and puntees are very unpopular with the students who live alongside the river but they are told very plainly that chucking water out of windows onto offenders is officially 'battery' and you're on your own if you get prosecuted!
They sell very pretty rose patterned nighties in M&S Autograph range, I bought Cathy some for her hols. I know exactly where you are coming from re night attire but with me it's not kids but B&Bers!!
The traffic here is phenomenal...punting is very popular it seems!!
I have cast out the first two books on the book club....too young mums for my generation but am getting the hard back copy of This Boy for my birthday this week...I know I will enjoy that one!
I love a tank top and knit shorts for the summer time - as often I have to go directly outside with dogs in the early hours - don't want to scare the neighbors! Rachel must be in tip--top shape with all this hard work!! Do they allow her to take tips?
@bpaquette Yes she's all muscle - not too happy about the size of her biceps! She's allowed tips but they are not too common as a lot of her tour parties are groups of teenagers. Her favourite combo is US-UK as the Brits don't want to look tight in front of American friends!
So agree with your no. 1, I know (a bit!) somebody who taught both Milliband brothers. Not innate (or even proper) socialists from what I can gather.
