A near disaster in which we arrived at the Henry Wellcome Galleries to be told that 'they are closed on Mondays' (and don't say, 'Didn't you check the opening hours?' because obviously not well enough!) was averted by a very productive trip to The British Museum. Adam needs to take his own photos to use as research for his art exams and he was in search of inspiration for a 'body' theme. Not only did the British Museum come up with some great ideas but there are also several tattoo parlours in the area and he wanted to get some photos of body art. The first place had a young man who was a bit precious - said he didn't want to be photographed and disappeared just in case Adam tried to take sneaky shots but did offer the services of his female assistant who was willing and in possession of some amazing limbs. The second was down this alleyway and next door to a recording studio which caused a frisson of excitement for both of us - in my case because I could have taken some great pics if I hadn't handed my camera over to the boy. Another remarkable young lady offered herself up for photos and I then bemused the band loitering outside the recording studio by giving them the once over and asking the one with tats if Adam could take his photo (I was amazed there was only one with them - they seem to be everywhere). Anyway he was delighted and whipped his shirt up to show us his latest work in progress.
Three GT:
1. We stayed calm in the face of poor planning.
2. Three major museums and galleries in one day (and all free of charge)
3. Nice people who have suffered for their art - the girls told me 'some bits hurt more than others'! I just hope they never change their minds about wanting their war paint...
I must say I have seen some pretty great tattoos - I must take a picture of my son-in-law's. But have also seen some doozies - I feel bad for the owners. My co-worker got a Quetzal bird on her leg while on vacation this past spring, and when we admired it, she said that hummingbirds are her favorite birds. Ummmmmm.
Goodness I have fallen so behind on commenting and even loading photos so forgive me for my absence! Love the back story to this and sounds like a good day, and shots, were had by all.
