There was an 'event' on at Jesus Green today organised by Chypps (Children and Young People's Participation Service) who have been busy throughout the city all year. Their events seemed to be quite badly attended for a while but I think they are advertising better and maybe choosing better events because I've seen a couple of their activities looking very busy. They have a double decker bus which was parked in one of our less affluent areas last week and was teeming with kids doing craft activities - brilliant for families who haven't got the spare cash for holidays/trips out/extra summer toys etc. The event today was a big one with a couple of climbing walls, a dance stage, a competition or something going on at the skate park, street art lessons, people on stilts and loads of other stuff for kids of all ages (including something with fire for youngish ones!). They also had the Chypps Play Boat - a lovely barge bought (I suspect luckily) just before all the 2008 cuts came in. There were kids appearing from all directions with skateboards and they were pretty brave because not only were the ramps full of bikes, scooters and boards but there was a big audience and a PA system - the girl on the mike seemed to think her role was to whoop every so often!!
Three good things:
1. Nice to see our park packed with local kids having fun (as we know I'm very keen on lots of young visitors spending their money on punting etc but they do rather take over everything)
2. An exhausted doggy after rachel threw hoops for him
3. A 99 ice cream bought for me by my daughter
I really like the cropping of this shot and the moment you caught - they look sooo cool ;). Fav for me! That event sounds really nice - not sure about the fire but the rest sounds rather tempting.
Your cropping here is spot on Judith & you have that nice frame you now have to pay extra for on PicMonkey!!
I love her rucksack....do you think it beats your pink number !!! LOL!
The story is as good as the picture! We are always trying to get the youth involved in activities here. The whooping girl sounds like fun, better than the screaming they seem to want to do now!
@happypat It's a 'he' Pat but I can understand your confusion!! @jo13 Adam in Suffolk without a signal so I'm going to be on tenterhooks - and there's a bit of a debacle going on with iGCSE slashing the percentage of high grades so Eeeekkk!!! it is!
Does Adam take that higher grade iGCSE I am impressed ...much harder than the general exams...more like the old O levels I believe. Well I hope he has done really well but as long as he tried his best........
@happypat Yes very like O'levels - no modules or retakes and loads of facts to learn! They are prepared well for them - it was all fine until tonight and now I'm thinking 'Oh no! Why did he have to do ones where you have no heads up about how it's going until the end?!!'
I just love how you composed, edited, cropped this shot. I think you've had good practice taking shots of Adams teams without them being recognizable such that ou did this so perfectly
A superb bit of reportage shooting judith....love the monochrome....works even better without the heads....i lije the border tii as it adds a bit of street cred to the shot. Don't you just love community spirit when it happens ?
How great that your community is doing things like this for kids and families! I love this picture! It looks like a magazine shot for a fashionable teen clothing line.
I love her rucksack....do you think it beats your pink number !!! LOL!
