Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose by judithg

Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose

Gertrude Stein. Things are what they are. Apparently. I don't know if she was meaning that there is a huge variety of roses even within the same plant and they are still all roses or something else. Anyway - a bud and an open flower on our rambler.
Three GT:
1. After a very heavy pruning a couple of years ago this plant is looking very fine again.
2. Another beautiful June day.
3. I've rescued a culinary disaster caused by a mistake in one of Jamie O's recipes with emergency oven chips.
It is what it is - in this case, beautiful :)

Very pretty. A mistake from Jamie? Never! And oven chips are a culinary disaster themselves.

Like the focus on the bud. I refuse to have a chip pan any more (guess who always cleaned it) and we will only eat one sort of oven chips in our house - and not very often!!!

@dh one third of the amount of milk in his batter - I knew it looked all wrong - should have checked with Delia. I ate the 'biscuit' instead of chips - the meat part wasn't great either - won't be doing that recipe again!

So beautiful and soft. Makes me quote Shakespeare (from Romeo and Juliet9 in my head ;)).

@judithg Which recipe was it?

Oven chips are a definite emergency......not a patch on proper home cooked chips but @quietpurplehaze is right, we don't have a chip pan now but haven't eaten decent chips since!
Lovely Gertrude is a rose.......

@dh 'Snake in the hole'. Other people seem to have made it ok but his batter is 100g flour, 2 eggs, 100 ml milk - I think it should be more like 300 ml milk - he has other recipes with 115g flour and 285ml milk.

@happypat @quietpurplehaze it's true - I've switched to sweet potato chips in the freezer or a 'wedged' baked potato with olive oil and a good seasoning of some sort can be pretty good.,

@judithg now they are a good alternative....I do like sweet potato...they like them in NZ very much too.
