Were it not for the tall modern - well, 1980s modern - skyscraper in the center of the image, this shot could easily have been taken in the late '50s. I stopped downcity for a photo before heading into work this morning. My plan was to shoot the morning sun hitting the upper half of the Providence skyline. Turns out I'm a bit too early in the summer for the shot I really want, but luck was with me anyway. As I was preparing to shoot, this modified '57 Chevy came around the corner and very conveniently was the only car on the block when I captured the scene. While I hadn't planned on shooting a black and white scene today - I was more hoping to shoot golden glow on the buildings - the antique car made that an easy decision. Suffice it to say, I'll be back there when there's a later sunrise.
Post processing was my typical black and white conversion. I applied a warming filter to everything except the sky. That was to improve the contrast between sky and everything else. A gradient map in color blend mode performed the b&w conversion. I adjusted the levels a bit, and then adjusted the brightness and contrast slightly. Finally, I applied a sepia photo filter as the top layer.
