Dog Walking in Style

I had two thoughts in mind when I set out for today's photo. First, I was hoping to find a shot of snow plows being positioned for tomorrow's blizzard. They normally gather at the Hampton Inn across from India Point, but they were not yet there, so "Plan A" was shot. "Plan B" was to take a photo of the perfectly calm water in the river adjacent to the park. It really was smooth as glass, and would have made a great "The Calm Before the Storm" shot. I abandoned "Plan B," though, when I saw this woman in a full length fur coat leading her sheep dog into the park. I can honestly say I've never seen anyone walk their dog in a fur coat.

On a note to those following my 365 Project, the forecast for tomorrow calls for blizzard conditions with up to 24 inches of snow and wind gusts exceeding 50 MPH. There is a strong possibility that we'll lose power at some point Friday, and given the way National Grid has mishandled other recent storms, it may be out for a while. While I will continue shooting daily, if I lose power then it may be several days or more before those photos are uploaded. On the plus side, you may get to see some interesting snow shots.

Post processing today started with a brilliant cold filter in Topaz Adjust. (I did try this in b&w, but it simply didn't work well.) I adjusted adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment and a slight hue/saturation adjustment were added in PSE.

Here is the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-NTGgkG3/0/XL/2013%2002%2007_0025%20copy-XL.jpg
Wowzza, that is some amazing coat. Stay safe in the storm.

This is a very interesting picture in that it would be easy to make up a whole story around the two humans and two dogs. That amazing woman in her enormous fur coat (but what better to wear on a bitter day) and the man are looking at the shaggy dog (echoing the fur coat), whilst the man's poor wee dog is desperately trying to escape the shaggy dog. One can only imagine that maybe the man needs to partake of a similar caution! Anyway, it strikes me as a humorous picture. Since actually trying out street photography I am beginning to see something interesting in the stories of other people going about their lives. And, of course, with my projections, I am able to learn something about myself as well. Excellent!
Meanwhile Ron, stay tucked up indoors and safe. But some snow pictures are eagerly anticipated.

@medusa Oh, that sheep dog was a bundle of kinetic energy. I prefer to shoot from a kneeling position since it gives a more interesting perspective to the composition. Of course, he decided that kneeling down meant "Photographer wants to play!" The little pup was definitely trying to avoid him, but for good reason. He was recently neutered and still walking a bit tenderly. LOL
