Historical Knowledge

I went to Haines Park in Barrington for today's photo, planning to line up the type shot you see here. After I took this elderly gentleman's photo, he stopped to share some anecdotes of his own experiences taking photos over the years. That reminiscing lead to a lengthy conversation about the Haines Park area, and his experiences here and at Crescent Park in the aftermath of the 1938 Hurricane. In talking to him, I learned a bit about some of the ruins that may still be seen along the East Bay Shoreline. The man was a wealth of local knowledge regarding local history. If anyone ever wonders what makes street photography so addictive, they only need to have this type of an experience once to be hooked for life.

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted adaptive exposure, regions, color sensitivity sliders, boost black, boost white, and contrast. A levels adjustment and a sepia photo filter were added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-K2cSRF6/0/XL/2013%2007%2031_0019%20copy-XL.jpg
Great photo, and you are right...to chat with locals and learn more about the area you are in is a great thing and having a camera seems to bring out the knowledge they have of the area!
