Along the Riverfront

Today was one of those days where getting a photo was a real struggle. The original plan was to get a photo before work. That was scuttled by a call from work on my way downcity for said photo. I then had a lengthy project meeting that went right through lunch. I stopped at Bold Point on my way home, but was extremely displeased with what I photographed there. (A rather contentious staff meeting left me in a very artistically uninspired mood, and it was reflected in that photo.) Thus, after dinner I decided to go downcity for a night photo. Well, there was a Providence College basketball game at the Dunk, which meant traffic getting into the city was brutal. Parking was equally a nightmare, so I ended up at the end of South Water Street. With temperatures today hovering twenty degrees below normal, there was nobody out and about along the river. That left me with the photo you see before you. I was really hoping someone would walk down the boardwalk so I could add some life to the scene, but it just wasn't meant to be.

Post processing started with a Sepia 1 filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, protect highlights, and color sensitivity sliders. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-DQq76B5/0/XL/2013%2011%2013_0037%20copy-XL.jpg
This is beautiful and peaceful--what you needed at the end of a day like today. The black and white is perfect for it--adds to the serenity. I am in awe of your night shots on smugmug.

Ron, this is absolutely a FA V for me! Sorry to hear you had a hard day, but perhaps this image reflects how the day went . . .in other words, if it had been me having the day you describe, I'd want to be alone, and I feel the calmness I would need in this picture. I love the way the fence leads your eye into the city, and the processing is brilliant!
