Rotary phone with touch-tone service: Check. 5 1/4 inch floppy drives: Check. 1200 BAUD MODEM: Crap. Where's my MODEM?
I stumbled across these old 5 1/4 inch floppies this morning, and immediately knew I had to work them into today's photo. Talk about flashbacks! They bring me back to the pre-internet days where everything was dial-up and networking was done on bulletin boards being run by computer geeks hopefully in your hometown so you didn't incur long-distance telephone charges. I still remember bringing home my very first computer. It was a Packard Bell PB-500, with a whopping 640K memory, Intel 8088 processor running at 4 Mhz (and a turbo button to double that speed), a 30 MB hard drive, and MS/DOS 5.0. Interestingly enough, it costs about the same as today's mid-range desktops, and it served me well for several years before I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to a 486 running Windows 3.1. Ah, the memories that a simple 5 1/4 inch floppy can elicit.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
