Big things on my road trip part II - The Big Galah - Kimba South Australia
Kimba is a small town on the Eyre Hwy and is the halfway point between Australia's east and west coasts. In addition to the sign denoting the half way mark is this 8m tall galah. He is made of steel, high tension bird wire (what ever that is), It dates to 1993.
For those of you not familiar with galahs, they are pink and grey cockatoo and is found in almost all areas of the Australian mainland.
Galah is also an Australian derogatory term for an idiot or fool. However, I don't personally know anyone who uses this term, I think it was more common in older generations.
For me the Big Galah will be another memory of my road trip.
I didn't know there was a big galah - but I'm glad it's not as scary as the big koala! We have lots of galahs around here - they're very cute, inquisitive and pretty :)
