The man crossing the bridge has dyed his beard red using henna. I was told that the men like to dye their beards in honour of the prophet Mohammad who is said to have had a red beard. Other people said that Muslim men are not permitted to use any dye but henna. Another suggested that henna is cheaper than other dyes,
I had a weekend up in the mountains with some friends, in this Pakistani section of the Himalayas we drove to a point higher than the highest mountain in Australia, and that was in the valley area. I had never been to those elevations by car before. I was intrigued by the effects of the altitude. Packs of potato crisps popped open, the ball out of a roll-on deodorant popped out flying up into the air. I know there are plenty of people who have been to higher places, but for me, it was the highest elevation I'd been to not in a plane.
Thanks you for reading and commenting on my reminiscent stories. It amazes me how many memories flood out of every picture I have. I have long wanted to write down the memories before they fade and this project is spurring me on.
Great photo, and I'm fascinated by the effects of altitude! You are really opening up new parts of the world to me. Suddenly going on holiday to (beautiful) Scotland isn't as appealing....!
I love the shot and the story equally! At first, I wondered why you were going on about the man's red beard so had to have a second look and even a close-up look. I'm happy for you to have this opportunity to write about your travels.
Beautiful lighting in your shot - and that beard does stand out too! I was fascinated to read about the crisps and deodorant ball reacting to the altitute - not something that ever occurred to me!
