Film February - Lake Palic Serbia - Rapunzel's tower?
I travelled around north-east Serbia on a work trip in 2002 visiting refugee camps. one of our stops was near Lake Palic, which was a popular tourist destination in the Vojvodina area. Following the Balkan wars a number of tourist chalets fell into disuse and decay. The architecture so often reflected styles from the Austro-Hungarian Empire and frequently reminded me of something from a fairy tale. Palic is 18km from the Hungarian border and had a Hungarian ethnic majority population.
We went to a restaurant right on the border of Serbia and Hungary and I was intrigued to see Emus (the large Australian flightless bird) being farmed there. To the best of my knowledge we were not served emu at dinner.
As I look back through my photos I regret that I didn;t travel more, that I didn;t take more photos. However it was my time in Belgrade which saw me buy my first SLRs (film) and my very fist digital camera.
This shot was with my Canon APS film SLR the the Canon EOS Elan 7/aka Canon EOS 33V, it was a wonderful first SLR, with the ability to swap between different APS films mid-roll with ease, swapping ISOs and to between b&w film and colour.
I apologise I am jumping through different countries day to day - I just have so many film shots and trying to include a variety in my film-feb - I will continue through the year though
What an incredible building... if you had said it was in a theme park I could have believed you! How sad that it fell into disrepair, particularly when so many people were homeless.
Your spiel about the camera has left me realising how little I really know about photography!! I don't mind you jumping about at all, I love all the wonderful places you have been and fabulous shots you took :)
regret that you didn't travel more?!?!?! Are you insane?!? You've done an absolutely incredible amount of travelling!!!! I'd say leave that regret on the back steps. Love this photo.
