Tonle Sap, Cambodia by lbmcshutter

Tonle Sap, Cambodia

Many visitors to Siem Reap take a break from visiting the Angkor temples to take a boat trip to the floating village on Tonle Sap. I was no exception.
Tonle Sap is the largest lake in South East Asia

The boats taking people out puzzled me, we just headed straight out into the lake racing past the village, then stopped, the captain and his deck hand a young boy, performed some mysterious maintenance, giving passengers the impression the boat had broken down. I knew it had not as a number of other boats also had the captain in the water fiddling with the propeller. I think it was a ploy to make us feel we'd escaped a terrible fate and pay a big tip. It was odd.
Interesting life some of us live. Great photo.

What gorgeous light and water. Too bad about the little scam, but it sounds like no harm done.

What a very odd situation.. I wonder if they wanted their trips to seem to last longer than the others' trips?
The shot you got was just glorious... the colours are fabulous!

Wow gorgeous shot! Lovely. I took a banana boat trip once in PNG where every 4 or 5 minutes, air would get into the fuel lines and the boat would stall.... It was a concern as we were in decent waves but it was great to get back to dry land!

I love all the sky in this shot. Wonderful feeling to it. And hallelujah the boat didn't actually break down! Ours did, once in Tokelau, and we had to walk/swim 8 hours around an atoll in searing heat with almost zero water! Thank the Pacific Ocean gods that it was a clear day!

hahaha classic story...there are some odd things that go on here thats for sure. sometimes it can be as simple as it worked for someone once so now its a standard ploy....even if it never works again. some days nothing here seems logical :) Pretty shot with the bright colours and the cool cloud sweep.
