Dying Lily

I think we would all agree that 365 changes the way we do things around the house. We dust the shelves more carefully if we know we'll be taking a shot of the books. We learn how to maneuver our camera around the various and sundry pieces of furniture, curtains, rugs or any other household object that might clutter the shot (even pets and people can fall into this category!). We see dishes, bowls, scarves, towels, baskets, blankets and even a dress or pair of pants as a suitable back drop for the close-up of a bauble or trinket and sometimes even tools! Any and every object that occupies space in our home has photographic potential. Every corner, every shadow, every window, every lamp manipulates the way we see things and especially how light is absorbed or reflected by them. Most of all, we see things we never noticed before! Sometimes even the simplest task makes us do a double-take or second look before we impulsively move on to the next thing on our to-do list. And such was the case with my photo today. I was busy in the kitchen today making a new batch of suet for the birds when I noticed one of the lilies on the flower I brought home the other day had died. I plucked it off and was about to toss it in the garbage when suddenly I realized I was holding in my hand a lovely photo opportunity!
How true your words are. It's one of the things that I have noticed since joining 365, I definitely look at things differently. Wonderful details!

@salza Thank you Sally! I was really laughing at myself when I literally stopped dead in my tracks and said, "Ooo- don't throw this out, photograph it first!"

Yes, you have to be a bit careful for always saying, " I could take a photograph of that!" Other people think we are obsessed but I agree with you, Ann that it makes our lives much richer!

Beautiful shot. I am glad you did not throw out this lovely lily before you took this shot. Yes, 365 has also changed the way I arrange things in my house.

I agree....we do see so many more things. I usually don't notice the dust on the furniture until after I have taken the picture. hehe!

I have to have my daughter read this. She thinks I'm the only one who does these things. I'm not sure it will stop her eye rolling. But it'll prove I'm not the only nut ball out there.
Lovely picture by the way.

@maggiemae Thank you Maggie!
@daisy Thank you Kathryn!
@mrssmith203 Thank you Carla! That happens to me sometimes as well.

@sgiesman Thank you Sarah! Your comment had me really laughing- I hope your daughter gets a laugh out of my thoughts too and maybe a little understanding. My friend Diane knew that I took part in a "photography thing" and that it involved taking shots daily. She'd seen me take a few odd shots. But when we went to Boston this summer and I was stopping to take a shot every 20 seconds she finally turned to me and said, "I knew you took a lot of pictures, but I had no idea that it was this many!"

@digitalrn Thank you Rick!

Thanks to all! This might make a good discussion thread- things I always threw out before 365!

Your commentary is right on target. The textures in the lily are just wonderful. And I agree that Sarah's comment hit it just right! @sgiesman

You are so right about viewing things different,y. I love this, it has such texture and detail - so much beauty you'd have missed if you hadn't looked.

@jesperani Thanks Jennifer! I am glad to have developed this ability to see "more" than the average person- even if it does get me hot water with the husband on occasion!

if others can take pics of anything else dead, why not a dead flower? nice capture.

Very nice shot, Ann. There is such detail in this photo. Even a dying flower can be beautiful, just as you've proven here. Well done.
