I made it to the Shuttle, albeit a little late in the day. I caught up to it when it was at a several-hour stop. It had to be transferred to a different mode of transportation in order to make the crossing on the overpass over the 405 freeway.
The crowd wasn't huge, but it was immoveable. It was about 6 deep at the barricades and nobody was giving an inch, so all I could do was raise my camera above the heads and shoot. And the sun was quickly fading, so I had to up the brightness quite a bit during editing.
I would like to get out again Saturday to see if I can get a better shot.
You also have a glimpse at our gas prices at the moment. Ack!
@ubobohobo It's 78 feet wide, wing tip to wing tip, and I believe it's about 5 storys tall at the tail.
Over 200 trees were cut down in order to widen the street width, and many street lights, power poles and telephone poles were removed and then replaced as the Shuttle passed. It is a huge undertaking, to be sure.
@bkbinthecity@bardejov
Thank you. I was really anticipating getting a better shot, but I'm glad I at least got to see it while it was being transported through the city. Pretty amazing.
@webfoot
Surprisingly, traffic wasn't too terrible. At least not getting there. Coming home was worse, but I think it was worth it for this once-ever chance. I was even able to park about 3 short blocks away. It wasn't a mob scene, just those people jammed up against the barricades who wouldn't budge. And everyone was well behaved (astonishing in L.A.) People stayed on the sidewalks to and from, for the most part, so they didn't impede traffic. Pretty nice experience overall.
Wow, considering you took this shot over your head, it came out great. So glad it has finally arrived at the spot it will remain. Yep, leave it to CA to have such outrageous gasoline prices. We are feeling it and seeing it here in the Sacramento area also.

@aromatic Wow, thank you so much.
