my word today is "across".
didn't have the chance to do any photographing today. one, it was raining and times like this i am seriously thinking of getting a housing for my camera. then i see the price and i say, nah! i'll just use my clear cage umbrella which i forgot to bring. two, i actually did some good deed today by delivering, during my lunch hour, solicitation letters for donation for a silent auction for our office's United Way campaign. UW is a charitable organization and they hold fundraising campaigns every year. and every year, i do my bit to help out our charitable committee.
so i went around the building's mall and distributed letters. i had a system, i arranged the letters in the order of the stores' locations along the underground path. i hand out one letter to a store then to the store "across" it, making a zigzag pattern. that way, i don't get bored because i get to practice dodging the people milling about the plaza. i actually get a kick out of doing that (sometimes i can be weird) plus it's a good exercise. you should try it sometimes.
and what of the photo? i took this yesterday as you will gather from the exif data. the bloody rain had stopped but there were still a lot of dark clouds except for this one instance that the sun came through and shone on the building a block away. you will remember that in july, i posted a photo of this same building and tree ( http://365project.org/summerfield/365/2011-07-24) and i also posted one in may ( http://365project.org/summerfield/365/2011-05-20). so, here's the fall shot of exactly the same tree and the same building. my vantage point is on the south side of front street 'across' from the hockey hall of fame building.
well, that's a long-winded description just to get the word across, isn't it?
I LOVE this one the best! So iconic! Then I like Spring....lastly, the summer shot. I like the idea of shooting same place throughout the year! I may have to try that. I give to United Way...does that count? That is so nice of you to zig and zag across foot traffic to help the UW! fav on the photo btw!
@cscecil - i did a lot of criss-crossing, yes. all for a good cause. i had sushi after. i figured i should reward myself. thank you, CS.
@espyetta - the next one will be in the winter (which is end of january! for me). there's also a UW where you are? cool! of course giving counts. that's very nice of you. and the fav is much appreciated. thank you, MB.
@sunnygreenwood - thank you, anne. it's fun to be a part of the campaign. we also do roses, where one buys a rose and would have it delivered to somebody he/she likes. i write all the little tags with my fancy script handwriting - a big sacrifice, considering i have carpal tunnel syndrome. but it's all for a good cause and i take my time to do it.
@olivetreeann - thank you, ann. i suppose the dark clouds got reflected in the building, plus it is really a bleh weather around here, especially today. just pissy rain all afternoon and tonight.
for the first time, anne and ann are together! :-)
Gorgeous shot, summerfield . . and so interesting to catch the different seasons. You are one busy woman and have such an interesting life. Love the way that this is framed by the tree and the starkness of it. Disconnected tomorrow..take care!
@pamfromcalgary - UW has been my "baby" charity since i came to canada; they do a lot for so many underprivileged people; plus i can direct where my contributions go, mostly for children's breakfast and senior meals. thank you, pam.
you my friend have one healthy sense of humour! I can just picutre you dodging back and forth from shop to shop! Kudos to you for volunteering also! I have great admiration for volunteers and hope to be one myself one day =) This is a beautiful shot of that building...too bad that Charlie Brown tree is competing for attention. (no really...I do love trees)
