the white stuff by summerfield

the white stuff

there was a constant dusting of snow yesterday that lasted until early this morning. to my disappointment, however, there were no snow-laden trees or tree branches. the white stuff was just enough to cover the grounds, made life miserable for me when i walked around, and enough for the stupid drivers to realize how stupid they are. no, actually, they probably didn't realize they're stupid when they were driving 80 on a 45 road that had not been sanded or salted yet.

i went to the park but i saw nothing of photographic value (at least to me) so going back to my apartment, i took a shot of this row of townhouses. quaint little street with all the new structures on one side and old houses on the other.

all day it was just drag and dreary and grey. sorted out all my photos from my vacation and gracious heavens more than 6,000! i think i am ready for a gallery. so, one more day and this album's done.
Wonderful pov, summerfield. The dusting still adds to the pristine look and you caught it at a quiet time. No traffic . . no people. I love the blue/gray color of this. You can feel the winter there. It has a very calming effect. We had rain, rain, and well . . more rain. Take care, friend. :)

You have those stupid drivers there?? I thought they only lived here! ESPECIALLY in snow!! hahaha! Still a lovely scene!
December 31st, 2011
To has lots of interesting areas, the old and the new all mixed up. Great capture of that, with a clean dusting of snow to make it pretty. lovely typical shot to squeeze in to your album.

Lovely pov with a dusting of snow.

Not enough for snow shots, of course we are afraid to say anything, or 5 feet will be dump on you.

@karenann - thank you, karenann. passed by this afternoon, not looking anything like this anymore!

@cscecil - i hope there are no stupid drivers in summerfield, illinois :-) thank you, CS.

@sunnygreenwood - thank you, anne.

@beba8162 - thank you, roberta.

@sarasdadandmom - we had that sometime in the late 90's. the mayor called in the army! thank you, terry.

The dusting still looks pretty even though it's only on the ground. I like those old townhouses- they have a lot of character. Nice shot! 6,000 vacation photos!!??

Sue
are you going to continue past one year? I can't wait to see your 365...wonder what its gonna be =)
December 31st, 2011
LOL ~ Yep we kept getting little dusting till last night, now we have a couple inches. ~ Nice shot! I remember that snow in the 90's! We lived in Toronto then, that was some snow!
December 31st, 2011
@olivetreeann - 6,107 to be exact. i added them just to be sure. i just sorted them by date, i'm so afraid to look my eyes might fall off their sockets. when i'm old and wheel-chair bound, i probably would have time to look at them. i mean, when i'm oldER! thank you, ann.

@roth - i think i am going to continue. but probably later on i want to have more time for my writing. my 365? it will probably be something ho-hum! there are 2 apps i'm trying to learn but can't make a go of either. thank you, sue.
December 31st, 2011
@sanera - thank you, sam. right now it's wet snow we're getting. you were here in toronto when mayor mel called the army? the snow we got then was awesome. i was walking on the sidewalk and the snow banks were taller than me. when i got to a point where the snow bank was just below the waist, i tried to cross the street and i just sank into that snow bank. when i got out, i left one of my boots so i had to retrieve it. quite embarrassing but fun when i look back!
December 31st, 2011
I love when it snows a bit - covers all the grunge and dirt! ;-) I'm heading north tomorrow to deeper snow. I'll say congrats on finishing your 365 now since I'll be MIA tomorrow. :)
December 31st, 2011
Yep~ That storm was awesome! I do remember the ridiculously high snow banks, and my family still jokes about the army being called!
December 31st, 2011
@russianblue - thank you, kass. leave the snow there, will you please? and see you next year, i suppose.
December 31st, 2011
This ended up being a good choice. I like the new/old thing. Sorry the drivers are not too bright! You should see drivers in Georgia, where I live, when we get ice on the roads. I just stay home!
December 31st, 2011
Great composition. The snow really makes this photo stand out. Nice job.
December 31st, 2011

what a lovely scene. 6000 photos! i was reading a thread yesterday about best sites for photobook printing. it might be worth considering for some of your favorites.
December 31st, 2011
@catsmeowb - thank you, camille. the shop where i bought my camera in february gave, as part of the warranty plan for the camera, 145 free prints. and i have another card that had about 200 free prints that i cannot seem to make a dent on. they also offer photobook printing and if i want it really really cheap, i can send my photos to manila and have the photobok made there. the problem would be to choose which ones are my favourites because after deleting the scrappy photos, there are still more than 5000 left. and i thought photography was a worry-free hobby! :-)

@summerfield when i was given my camera as a gift - it is a kodak, it came with some free offers that i never used. at Christmas i did order from their website - notebooks for the grandchildren, a mousepad and an 11x14 wall print for Malcolm. was very satisfied with what i got. the notebooks, especially. collage fronts with their initials on them, each on sale for $7.49 each. i never thought of a photobook until i read that thread. now i can't stop thinking about it as a way to keep my 365 photos. i don't want all of them but what a wonderful way to show my growth. i would like one just for the music challenge photos. there is a challenge starting tomorrow that i have to find again so i know what to do - oh no, thankfully, i just remembered. i better go look for it!

@catsmeowb - challenge? i like a challenge. lemme know about it, please. thank you, camille.

@danig - thank you, matey! so glad you like it.

@karenann - no, karenann. we didn't plan on going to niagara today or tonight. are you kidding me? it's like chaos in there! tomorrow is a maybe because i think it's going to be very very cold. i'm up waiting for the new year. i have to go around the apartment with my pot and ladle to make a lot of noise (neighbours be damned!) to scare away the bad spirits. not! thank you, karenann. you're so sweet.
January 1st, 2012
the challenge is called january treasure hunt. it allows you to find and post the items in any order you want but there is a specific list. looks like it will be fun. it is now on the first page of challenges.
