it came too late for a white Christmas, but it came nonetheless. we knew it would come, whether we liked it or not. and so when it did, old man winter made the roads and pavements slippery and the streets slushy.
this is the view looking down from my boss' office (boss is on vacay). the toronto union station is right beside our building, just across the street. below you can see the GO buses and the tracks of the GO trains that transport thousands of workers everyday to and from outside of the greater toronto area (the same tracks that the via and CN railways use). as you can see the tracks are covered with snow from an onslaught during the day. pretty sure a lot of the trains would've been cancelled. i took this early afternoon so traffic on the gardner expressway (the strip with the poles above the tracks and beside the parking lot) was still pretty good. besides, probably only half of the normal population came to work today as everywhere else was pretty dead.
Beautiful catch of the snow and great downward pov, summerfield. Usually everyone has their camera angled up . .so you went "out of the box" tonight. Well done, girl. Fear not about the snow . . ours has melted already. I'm patiently waiting for the next onslaught. Now IF we get too much and it stays too long . . I'll be singing the blues and complaining. That's me, never satisfied. :)
@karenann - thank you, karenann. i've taken a lot of pictures of this view before but there's always the glare on the glass windows. but today the glare isn't so bad so i thought i'd give it a try. snow was falling heavy but i also used the snow feature in picnik for some enhancement. snowy landscape is a lot of fun to photograph, you will see.
Nice shot! I feel like I'm in the boss' office with you! The shot feels like the city! Nice lines and composition. Well, I'm not looking for snow or missing the snow, but I know it's on its way! We're coming down home stretch!!
Great atmospheric capture. I love the snowfall but not driving in it. We have been spoiled so far in Calgary. We had a couple of storms but this last week the weather has been unseasonally warm.
@olivetreeann - well, you almost are in the boss' office, just don't mind the papers scattered all over and step over the junk, please. hahaha. joke. my boss' office isn't like that. but the view of the lake is wonderful. thank you, ann.
@pamfromcalgary - i don't drive during the winter and if i do i have to make sure that there's going to be no snow at any time, there are no ice in the road and it has to be during the day. experienced a 360 degree turn and going down a sloped road. from then on am not driving during the winter months. thank you, pam.
great capture of the snow falling! and only two more shots to post before you hit your 365....amazing. I am going away for New Year and (yet again) I will be somewhere without broadband so cannot post or comment til the middle of next week (and I still have catching up to do!)...so Happy New Year, congratulations on 365 and see you back online soon I hope.
Very nice capture- we are getting our first today- lucky me! I get to drive 4 hours to MPLS to pick up my son at the airport. It snows or blizzards every year when he fly's in. It will be worth the nerves to spend 4 days with him.
wonderful capture, love that view and how you get it in all different situations. looks like there is quite a bit of accumulation down there on the roadways. it has just started to snow here, thankfully, hope it means the temps will rise. stay safe - understand completely what you mean about the driving. i, too, did not drive in the winter.
@myautofocuslife - ah, livia, be careful what you wish for. where are you at anyway? snow is nice when you live in the country but in the city it's not that nice most of the time, especially when it turns to ice or worse, black ice. thank you, livia.
@patticake - well, aren't you the traveller, my dear? travel safe then, and bring back lots of beautiful photos. i'm still trying to catch up on everyone's postings and comments so i will stay put here for a while. :-)
@steeler - oh, that's not a V roof, it just looks like one, but there's a covered conveyor/bridge from the sugar factory to the (i assume it's a warehouse) other structure. you can check out the second link above, there's a bit of detail on that building. thank you, howard.
@jannkc - thank you, jann. drive safe. and remember, the positive is that you will be taking more wonderful photos to post and i will be on the lookout for them.
@catsmeowb - yes, there's a lot of snow accumulation on those train tracks on the lower right. it was a good thing there was not a lot of people from out of the city who were working yesterday so i'm sure the train cancellations would not have been so bad. as for driving, only if a life depended on me driving, then i will drive if it is that dire. otherwise, no-oh! :-)
@summerfield i was so fortunate when i was working that malcolm used to be a seasonal worker with construction. he could drive me back and forth to my job on bad days in the winter. we have no public transportation. in fact, one of my jobs was coordinating a donated car program for low income families. loved that job. grant funded. never learned how to drive in snow although malcolm has tried to get me to learn. my reaction is to put my hands over my face and scream. not productive. then i giggle. i am a hopeless giggler and when i do, everyone else does - i have often been threatened to have socks stuffed down my throat! nope, no winter driving for moi!
wow this is so incredible for me to see. today is el scorcho, getting the bikini out and heading to the beach, although my little town has been overrun by thousands of tourists so no quiet place to go except home. Maybe will lie in the kids pool and drink gin...
great shot btw, love all the detail and the avid description.
@cscecil - thank you, CS. glad you like it.

@sunnygreenwood - yes, fresh snow does that to a rather bleh!-looking view. thank you, anne.
@bkbinthecity - didn't this snow come from over there? hahaha! we'll send it back west then. thank you, brian.
@patticake - well, aren't you the traveller, my dear? travel safe then, and bring back lots of beautiful photos. i'm still trying to catch up on everyone's postings and comments so i will stay put here for a while. :-)
