still life #3 - i love cape gooseberries!

i don't see this for sale anywhere, but whenever our office has an event, the dessert trays are always decorated with these gooseberries. i "harvest" them off the trays at the end of the event because they'd be the only ones left on the trays.

i love their ever so delicate papery calyx and the berries are so sweet. if you don't remove the berry from the calyx, the berry will last for about three to four weeks in room temperature. i know that for a fact because i'd have them on my desk for days.

They used to grow like weeds in our back yards but the bush is slightly scraggly so they have made way for more ornamental plants

I grew some last year in pots on the patio, they are very easy to grow and quite an attractive little shrub as well. very tasty and pretty shot.
