chocolate. choclate truffles. gourmet chocolates. especially belgian chocolates.
in the early 80's when i was in law school in my late twenties, i weighed about 89 lbs. give or take. really thin. my first mr. summerfield, still my bf at the time, was an american businessman who travelled a lot. the first time he had to travel for an extended period, he called me every night and asked me what i wanted from his travels. he was in europe at the time and every time i would tell him all i want is chocolate. imagine my surprise when he came back from that trip. he bought a smaller luggage and put all his things in it and the large luggage he filled with chocolates. suchard, lindt, godiva, cote d'or, leonidas. a luggage full of chocolates. in various sizes and brands.
for months, i would have chocolate for breakfast, for lunch, for dinner, for snacks. in less than a year, i weighed 129 lbs. i was sent to the gym and had a rigorous exercise regimen and an almost no food diet. my secretary at the office, an older woman, would inspect my purse every day when i came in, and checked for chocolates which she would keep and brought home to her little son. good thing i managed to get me back down to 99 lbs. in a few weeks.
these days, i seldom eat chocolate but when i do i get the gourmet ones. there are a few gourmet chocolate boutiques around toronto and i swear they are all so good. the chocolatiers have become more innovative, not just with the blending of their truffles but also in the design and presentation.
this is from the patisserie next door to our building. they use only belgian chocolate. this one is called "pina coladas", white chocolate and pineapple mousse in a shell of white and dark chocolate, topped with a white chocolate baton and a white chocolate rainbow ring with a blackberry and a rasperry accent. arrrriba!
That could be the prettiest dessert I have ever seen. Wow. I would be horribly torn between looking at it and eating it. Awesome capture! I like eating dark chocolate. At least 85% dark. I try to eat some every day. They say it lowers cholesterol levels. ;D
Woow that's beautiful - more art than cooking! I share your passion for chocolate (although I'm not starting from a vantage point of 89lb!) so I try not to each too much of it - I've ever given it up for Lent... how am I going to get through this! Beautiful photo and congrats on finding a balance! xx
What a beautiful and colorful desert. Sounds like your male friend, liked you very much to go through all that trouble. Congrats on having the will power to curb you addiction. I would not have made it.
Wow -- what an amazing dessert! And what a great story! I was never 89 pounds (but 100 pounds for years!) but I could eat that much chocolate. My system does not like me doing that so much any more......and I'm like you. When I'm going to eat it, I'm going for the good stuff! This is an amazing dessert -- and it's so pretty!!!!
@myautofocuslife - you're right, it is too pretty to eat, but believe me, i'll get bored later on and it will be gone. thankyou, livia.
@steeler - believe it or not when i came back from my vacation in december i went down to 127 lbs. didn't last long to climb back up to 135. hahaha. thank you, howard.
@izzymathie - i have a lot of friends who give up chocolate during lent. i say more for me. thank you, izzy.
@sarasdadandmom - chocolate addiction is quite difficult to give up. it actually took a doctor's prescription for anti-cholesterol pills that made me control my food consumption. i refuse to take those medication so i get to eat healthy boring foods, then treat myself once in a while to good sinful ones including this baby. thank you, terry,
Well, this looks wonderful, and I do like the better stuff, but give me the more basic chocolate- I'm just not a big fan of pineapple. Wonderful treat though!!
The problem is, you live too CLOSE to one of these establishments. I'd be over there quite frequently . . but mostly to look. My husband would buy it, eat it, and savor it. I love healthy food but can't cook. So, for now, I am fast becoming addicted to photography. Chocolate's cheaper . . even GOOD chocolate. Beautiful photo, summerfield. :)
oh wow! what a great story friend, and YUM this looks awesome.
I too love chocolate, my fave being Lindt, those little balls of yumminess that just melt in your mouth....lucky it is too hot today for chocolate. Can't eat it in the heat. Today is 30 degrees and yesterday was 40, that's celsius. on the couch.....
@olivetreeann - i am eating it now as i type. it has coconut and rhum taste at the bottom. i hate coconut, but other than that, this thing is so yummy. thank you, ann.
@karenann - second bite's for you, with a sip of dark green tea. oh, this is soooooo rich and yummmy. thank you, karenann.
@slash - too bad you can't, because i'm eating it, third bite's for you. oh jesus, it is soooo goood!!!! thank you, susan.
@danig - ah, mate! i thought i'd finish it before i got to you. there's still two bites here, the mousse is laced with coconut and rhum. sorry, you won't be able to appreciate it with just one bite. there, i've finished it....oh, did you want some? :-] thank you, DG.
@myhrhelper - you won't believe it, but chocolate can be part of your diet. and dieting need not be something that you deprive yourself. really. thank you, kathy.
