the boats are back! by summerfield

the boats are back!

on my way to the beaches to catch a shot of the supermoon last night, i passed by the docks and found out the boats are back. just last week i had a shot of the empty docks and yesterday the place was teeming with boats of all kinds and sizes.

seven days of black and white photos. let's see if i pass the challenge. thank heavens there's a wild card for each week!

and i took this photo especially for howard @steeler. thank you, howard, for taking the time to photograph the proteas. i thought i'd buy a chocolate cake and take a photo for you, but i'm sure you'd prefer to eat a chocolate cake rather than look.

taken with the black and white function of the camera, at sunset, the light coming from the right side of the photo. i also took a coloured shot which i prefer, mind you, and you can view it here: http://one-photograph-a-day.blogspot.ca/

sooc except for the framing and name tag.

in my other album, i have posted an entry for the other challenge as well as the camera settings challenge (my camera is trying to play around with the big muscled cameras)

@steeler and @bkbinthecity - what you guys think?

I actually like how the B&W makes me focus on other details, like I see the reflections first in this one. In the color the buildings actually catch my eye first. I still love the color though and when I was a kid watching black and white TV, I still remember times when I was sure I saw some details in color, a red and white tablecloth, a blue sky. The mind wants the color.

@pandorasecho - by jove, you're right, dixie! i like the coloured version but i kept looking at the black and white and i noted it was a lot sharper than the other. it does draw you in to look at the boats whereas in the coloured building, the boats blend in with the buildings. hmmm...i just might like this black and white after all, at least for the week and if i can find a good subject. thank you, dixie.

Sue
ohhhh...i see you have your own boat there in the harbour!! great shot, did you see the supermoon last night?

@roth - yeah, man! let me know when you want to go sailing! thank you, sue. i ran out of patience waiting as there was a lot of mosquitos saying hi to me. there was also a very thin film of clouds on the horizon so i thought i wouldn't see it. i walked down the docks and when i was leaving at almost 9 that when i saw the moon rising out of the water, but of course i was too far away from the boardwalk by then (almost at lakeshore already). so i contented myself taking pics of it while walking towards queen street east. they were all golden coloured, awesome still. i cannot get tired of looking at the moon or watching it rise. i shall do it again next month.

I think that it is perfect in B&W! Stunning photo ... the clarity and the lighting are spot on for a b&w photo. You did an amazing job...looked at the color one too and love that. But I honestly like this one more for that fantastic effect. WOW!

Been wanting to do a week of black and white for awhile. Great start for your week (even though I'm a month late.) Beautiful capture. Love the pov, clarity and lighting. Most of all, I love the reflections.
