my get pushed partner this week is e.gad
@egad and her challenge is this: "I went back through your photos and you have a lot of photos and a lot of variety in your subjects/styles, so what I am challenging you with is taking an image that you weren't happy with and reshooting it improving on the things you didn't like before (e.g. composition, lighting, dof, pov, etc)."
nothing frustrated me more than the refraction shot i did last month, so it's just the right photo to re-shoot. so...
i used two lamps and directed it to a white board which i placed behind the wrapping paper. the previous photo didn't have any light source other than the room light.
i cleaned and wiped the wine glass very well because i thought in the last photo the glass was dirty; well, it turned out the "dirt" was in the paper, as it was a recycled paper).
as advised by abhijit, i turned off the light that previously caused the nasty reflections in the glass. i also filled the glass almost to the brim to get a different image in the glass.
partner couldn't believe that i could be so OCD as i tried different angles and degrees of lighting. but he was just happy to help out, holding the light, getting more water, taking the glass pieces from the china cabinet and putting them back in, and holding the reflectors and positioning them wherever i told him to :-)
i'm happy with this because i got the shape of the glass without heavy shadows and i like the shapes of the refracted colours. but i will have to do it again when i have more time and i will get a better quality paper so i can get a near-perfect shot. for now it would do for the push.
here's the original shot:
