And Now for the Melt by taffy

And Now for the Melt

Purposely in my extra extras album as it certainly doesn't show my favorite city at its best. But I thought it might be interesting after yesterday's post from far above the street, to see what it looked like at street level just before the rain started to fall. We're supposed to see the sun tomorrow -- I'm certainly hoping for something other than gray skies!

Oh wow

Saw a video on FB today that was really "creepy." It was ice flow on one of The Great Lakes I think...that was literally creeping from the lake to the short to someones back yard and lnto their home! I have never seen anything like it. Bizarre!
Nice capture here and hope you didn't get hit by ice!

Its like this over a wide area, Taffy. It was 41 F here in Idaho today and slush everywhere, but a big snowstorm howling outside right now. Crazy.

Cool diptych!

I really like the warmth in the lh shot

Yuk...Much as I envy the beauty of the snow, the slush I really don't. Fingers crossed that Mr sun will keep his promise with you

Melting! Nothing wrong with that. We actually had blue sky here and it was +5c out! I was in bliss when we went down to the valley bottom away from the snow and I got to photograph *gasp* colors! Enjoy your sun tomorrow, and treasure it!

Wow, that is nasty stuff! Hope you get some sunshine soon to warm you up.....it always feels good after the snow and the slush...

The melting moments come -- a nasty mess !!
January 12th, 2014
This is true!

Such a pity that nice white snow turns into a dirty mess and even (meltng ice) danger... Every time again a bummer.
Love your pov on the yellow pic. In the other pic you've really captured the grey atmosphere!

The melt is the worst part - you neither have the beauty of the snow or the comfort of normal conditions. It makes a great shot though

Yeah, this looks familiar - it's the same here. Dirty snow, melting slush, falling icicles. Just think - we get three more months of this!

It is interesting to see these shots after the others. I like your two slices of the melt scene.

This is the worst part of snow - very mucky and dreary!! Enjoy your sunshine!!
January 12th, 2014
Yup, it's a mess. I will venture out today I think.

Beautiful shots in this collage. Says a lot about the kind of weather you have been experiencing.
January 12th, 2014
Oh my what a mess!! Hope your getting sun and everything gets cleared away soon!
January 12th, 2014
So interesting to see the aftermath. Hope you see the sun soon

I do like all the water on the pavement, from a reflection-perspective, but we went out for a walk today, and it was not pretty! Your caution sign reminds me that when I was in high school a classmate's father was killed in Chicago when ice fell off a building and hit him. Yikes.

These shots may not show your city "at its best" but, they more than give a true picture of life in a big city. I'm more drawn to less "glamorous" or "picturesque" shots of city life. Very interesting.

@satinscape I'm so glad you said this! I've only posted a few shots overall that capture the underside of urban life (except for multiple subway shots!). I do think the city is fascinating in all its forms, and love being able to show all its idiosyncrasies. Thanks for the view, comment, and fav!
