It's Wet Out There! by taffy

It's Wet Out There!

Another 4 to 6 inches of snow last night causing 2 to 3 hour commutes. By the time I was going downtown for a meeting (about 3:30), the city had cleared the streets leaving piles of snow, snow melt, and slush. In my extras album is the prettier side of snow in the city. This one is done in the style for bw-bookclub that emphasizes bw as normality -- documenting the everyday. In this shot, I used higher contrasts to bring out the shadows and the sheen of the melting snow. The Art Institute can be seen in the background, across Michigan Avenue, one of our main streets. Just beyond the Art Institute (to the left) is park land and then Lake Michigan.

Now where did my comment go? This is a much grittier scene - perfect processing! This is the side of snow that I really don't like - the slushy aftermath! Great capture!

Yep, this is the ugly side of winter in the midwest....looks cold! It really conveys the starkness, and adds an element of desolation...

I really like the strong contrast here! You seam to have had quite a bit of snow lately, we on the other hand have had unusually little snow this winter

Great contrast in this. I like the reflections in the slush

Fabulous capture, another great shot Bw-bookclub! Amazing!

Perfect for the bookclub theme. The weather doesn't seem to keep people off the streets ...not sure I'd venture out?

I like the black and white. Definitely a shot characteristic of winter in downtown Chicago- wet and cold, and also how you captured the people- One looking in a hurry, and the other looking very cold

It looks like they've done a good job clearing the streets. The silhouettes of the people make it look grittier than it really is, I'll bet.

Great b&w and treatment. You really feel the cold. I can't imagine this capture looking better in color.

You must be so fed up of the snow, probably as much as we are bored of the never ending rain!! Brilliant shot though and great b&w

Nice street shot and it does look cold.

Nice lines and detail to tell your story. Hopefully things will melt soon.

Brrrr. I bet it was fairly windy at that spot too. You captured the feel very well.

Great use of pedestrians to get across the 'uck' feeling of the weather too!
