Middleton Top Engine House

This is the only survivor of the nine beam engine houses that once stood at the top of every incline on the Cromford and High Peak Railway. It was built in 1829, and its job was to haul wagons on cables up the 708 yards of the 1 in 8 and 3/4 incline.
