Visited Durham recently, one of my favourite cities, and was very lucky with the weather.
The River Wear meanders round the cathedral, castle and small medieval city creating a peninsula - meaning the city is very easy to explore on foot and you're never very far away from some beautiful riverside and woodland walks.
