Sunset wheat by aecasey

Sunset wheat

The combines are rolling and before I realize it the golden sea of wheat fields will be harvested and the straw baled. Since the landscape here is basically flat, I took advantage of the thunderstorm buildup in the east to add a bit of sunset color to this yet unharvested field.
Smashing shot but this does look like barley to me! (that is just me being pedantic!)

@steampowered Thank you. Just googled barley, and it does look like barley. Very similar heads, but this is red winter wheat, which is a common wheat grown here.

Superb image of barley but the sky is beautiful and the, the thin dark horizon line is superb and the foreground barley a glorious gold : love this it would survive on tones alone

I like the sense of expansiveness of this shot, those fields seem to go on forever.

Love the "infinity" aspect of this to show the expanse against the sky. Nicely done!

A gorgeous composition, with those clouds and tones. Lovely shot.

That field goes on 4-eva! Great shot, April, your landscapes are just getting better and better.

@snaggy Thank you. When I composed the shot I looked and saw my usual 50-50 horizon and remembered your advice. It feels awkward with this flat, empty horizon, but I'm trying to go with rule of thirds. It is more pleasing to the eye.

Lovely landscape with beautiful tones in the clouds.

great how you've got the line across the horizon, and lots of interesting textures in the field. would be great even without that lovely sky.
