Eldest was scheduled to leave yesterday afternoon, but wasn't allowed to board the train when he arrived two minutes after the scheduled boarding time. Unbeknownst to him, Amtrak had implemented stricter boarding regulations, and even though the train sat in the station for a full forty-five minutes after his arrival, no one was allowed onto the platform after the schedule boarding time. Today he arrived an hour early and watched frustrated passengers and none-too-friendly Amtrak personnel negotiate the latest boarding policies. Sadly, after a decade of train travel, he is now re-examining his travel options. As for me? I don't have time for the train, but I fell in love with the marble, wood, and romantic feel of this station.
Hi, April! I work near the train station and really love that building! I've taken lots of photos of it for the 365. Love the color & roof lines in your shot. Bummer about the boarding regulations. I'll have to remember that next time we take the train! BTW, I've really enjoyed your view of Portland. You've posted some wonderful shots!
@cathieg Thank you! I love visiting Portland, and my youngest loves being in school there. Wonderful people, a beautiful community, and jaw-dropping flora and fauna. You are most fortunate.
The station is very beautiful, but I have more sympathy with the child waiting anxiety
