question mark

The milkweed is blooming along the roadside. As best as I can tell, this butterfly is called a Question Mark. It's underside was dark, dark brown .... almost black ... and looked a lot like a bit of burned ash. I love the scalloped leaf shape of the wings!
Question mark always works. :)

This is very pretty - and so glad that there is milkweed for the butterflies!

Wow, a lot going on in this image. The pointy-ness of the butterfly and the flower makes them look almost merged. And all those flies... crazy!

@aikiuser @vankrey I was curious about those flies too. I went back in the evening ... they are all dead! Milkweed is where Monarch butterflies lay their eggs and are an essential part to the Monarch life cycle. As is nature's way, flies like to eat Monarch eggs ... but they are fatal to the flies! I am wondering if that's what happened here. I do hope some eggs survived.
