My father practiced law with J. E. Porter, a Canadian barrister who moved to Nebraska for his wife's health in the early 1900's. J. E.'s law books were lovely, old leather bound volumes, now quite worn and fragile. My son promised his grandma he would do his best to keep all the old leather law books, and he's worked hard trying to find space for them as our days with the old law office and my parents' house are nearing an end. Some he has brought home and put in the old barrister bookshelves. Some he has taken to my parents' summer house for safe keeping. These he just shelved next to my father's old black leather wingback chair. I love the south light illuminating the corner.
