Some people may call this scary. I call it "Wow, what a thrill!" I can only image what it must have felt like to be out in the bay and suddenly this happens just a few feet away. It was quite amazing to see, let alone live! ...Of course as a photographer I really wish my perspective would have placed that darn pier piling somewhere besides the whales mouth, but hey. I'm just thrilled I could grab the shot, let alone get it even reasonably sharp!
Hope your weekend has been as awesome as mine--thanks as ever for taking the time to stop by!
What?! Come on now. Who cares about the piling, this photo is sick. If I didnt know better I would think its fake. An awesome photo. I am currently in envy of your timing. A big time fav for the moment, the foresight, and for an all around cool photo.
Breath taking!!! What an image!!! (What pier!) In a moment like that, it's the scale of man and beast...nothing more! This is a sensation!!! (LOVE your tags!!!)
Just so amazing! And for the man to be so close and you had a camera on hand :) I'm waiting for the Southern Right whales to come here to have their babies. Every year it is hit and miss. We certainly don't see them this close :) Fav & follow
holy crap -- I think I would have a heart attack if I were that kayaker. Excellent moment for you, though! So what about that stupid pier piling -- you totally nailed it! How exciting!
@ninaganci Thank you! Yes, it was way cool. The whale was actually linge feeding--the warmer waters (global warming is a myth, you know) have been bringing in the bait balls (ginormous schools of sardines) closer to shores so the whales are coming in closer as well.
Fabulous capture! How on earth did the guy stay standing! He will talk about his experience and people will say "really?" You have the evidence! I bet he would love this photo to back up his story! Lol! Fav!
:-D
Brilliant timing Excellent shot
