Fort Ord Graffiti by aikiuser

Fort Ord Graffiti

Today rained all day so we searched for and found the abandoned Fort Ord compound in Monterey to explore. It's not trespassing if the chain link fence was already knocked down, right??

The place was in utter ruin and decay, but there was surprisingly little graffiti. We did stumble upon this spot, though, which was at least bright if not especially interesting. I did try some HDR exposures with the good gear, but I left the CF card in the car. Doh! I'm already settled into the hotel room for the night and It's entirely too cold to brave the five flights of stairs in my jammies to fetch it. Instead you get another iPhone shot, this time it was at least processed by me and not Hipstamatic. ;-)

Note to self: Do NOT attempt further exploration without a respirator. -gasp-
Ooooooh! I love this! Go iPhone, go! :) you love it don't ya?!?

@lacedxxoo Dude, Yes, serious lust for sure! >-) And my mom tells me there's a phone with this camera. How cool is that?!

sounds like we are having the same weather, aiki... though in our part of the world, rain everyday.... nice and gritty shot....

Strange how we feel a little less freaky when we have a companion with us, huh? I've checked out places like this alone before and my imagination went wild! I'm planning on hitting Monterey in a few days too. Don't think I'll be getting quite as adventurous with my 3 year old tagging along. :)

You're getting some great shots out of that iPhone! I'm looking forward to giving it a try myself soon. I have an Verizon iPhone on the way!

@lintbrush Sweeeeet! Yes, having that iPhone camera has been incredibly fun. I don't want to rely on it too much for my project, but gosh darnit, some days it's just too stressful to try to create a "real" photo after a full days work and then other commitments. At least it keeps a camera in hand at all times. And those silly little apps can make even the most mundane of subjects really creative. Technically terrible, but aesthetically interesting at least! ...and never mind all the other incredibly cool things it does. Woot!!!

Love the light and the angle. Can't really get over this whole phone/camera thing. Why, exactly, do we own these awesome cameras?

There's something about graffiti art that really amazes me. This is so well-captured - love it!

I like it, Jenn, the angle, the light. Did you notice that someone scrawled your name on the floor?
February 20th, 2011
@aikimomm , I must say, they have wonderful penmanship. lol
February 20th, 2011
I remember scrawling stuff on walls, but never this fancy. lol

Very interesting capture! Was it dusty there or were there asbestos issues? I love Monterey--one of my fave places.

Being retired military and having a cousin and good friend both station at Fort Ord at one time, this was very cool to see. Good fine on a rainy day.

I really like the way you shot and processed this!

@barbsmith LOL, sometimes I wonder! But really, as fun as the iPhone is for the quickies, it'll never match the technical quality of a DSLR, and no way would I give up my tellys, macros and wide angles!!!
