About 25 years ago I happened to stop at a random spot along our coastline and saw some mammal life I had never seen before. I'd of course seen sea lions and Harbor seals, but these were far too large. As it turns out, they were elephant seals and not particularly common around here. A few months later it hit the news and now, years later, they are protected, the spot is a hugely popular viewing area and there are about 23,000 animals over a wide stretch of coastline. Right now it's mating and birthing time and it seems every female has a pup along side. An amazing sight!
Lol, both you and Jim tonight! Great caption! Remember when they weren't fenced off and you had to be careful where you'd walk because you'd be right in there with them? A bit dangerous this time of year, for sure! These critters are fun to watch and so many, amazing!
Amazing comp and crop, light and texture and expression, a big fav for me! The info you've provided is very interesting--so glad they are now protected.
