Peace

One of the carved dedication plaques on the wall of one of Lady Brown's Cottages in Polebarn Road - Trowbridge.

Erected in 1900 by Sir Roger Brown were six ornate cottages in memory of his wife Lady Sarah Elizabeth who died in 1898 to provide housing for six poor women of over 60 years of age.

The terms of qualification were as follows -“The inmates shall be appointed without regard to religious or political opinions, but shall be good women of moral worth who shall have been born in the parish of Trowbridge or Hilperton and lived there for not less than ten years preceding the date of their appointment. The possession of some small means shall not be deemed to be a disqualification.”

@jacqbb Thank you - the other cottages have similar texts on them. most 'modern' buildings are unfortunately devoid of ornate details such as these.
