Today our school had a professional day, in part to discuss strategic planning. The morning was spent in conversation with author Michael B. Horn, co-author of "Disrupting Class: How Disruptive Innovation Will Change the Way the World Learns." Over the past few months groups of faculty, parents and students have been thinking and talking about Horn's theories on preparing for a future we can not imagine. This morning's dialogue with the author in California was thoughtful and wide ranging. It was a great opportunity for our school community to test its ideas of innovative education against those of a great thinker in the field.
This is the school theater in our Fine Arts Building. It seats approx. 625. Today we had about 125, including some students who actually gave up their holiday to participate!
We used to have professional days, but the state of Indiana decide that we had to do them on our own time. I like what you did here...I think I would enjoy this!
Ha, Allison...I have not posted today's shot yet but I won't be posting my Michael Horn shot, that's for sure. (I think most of you already know Allison and I work at the same school.) To add my 2 cents - I really love how our school WANTS the input of teachers, parents and students. We are a private school, the largest in Virginia and one of the best (she says humbly) but we realize we cannot rest on our "laurals." For what it costs to attend our school, we had better offer more than what people can get other places for just their tax dollars!
