I returned from the pool today to discover the mail had already been delivered and there was a package with an unfamiliar post mark from California. When I examined the return address, I practically levitated with excitement. Flat Allie had returned!
It was a year ago that my good friend Louise @Weezilou invited my selfie to accompany her and her husband Ken on a series of trips that would take them from Nova Scotia to Chicago to Italy, Vatican City, Switzerland, France and Monaco then back to California and finally on a Caribbean cruise where Flat Allie got to sit, literally, on the Captain's Table.
Now in a priceless bundle was a note from Louise, the journal I had sent, an amazing book of photographs and commentary documenting the year's travels and in a separate envelope -- Flat Allie herself!
You can imagine my excitement as I pored over the wonderful story of my namesake's adventures. I wish you all could see the photos, each one incorporating Flat Allie into the action. I felt like i had a front row seat into a fabulous year of touring with two of the most delightful traveling companions, Louise and Ken. Thank you both for taking me along!
In case you wonder, here is the original self portrait that got the ball rolling: http://365project.org/allie912/365/2010-08-19
What a totally fabulous idea!! I had seen reference to 'Flat Allie' but had no idea what it was all about! I love the idea from the journal to the pictures and Louise's @Weezilou diary. Did you two know each other before 365? I do hope you will share some of the journal with us. As we have said before, we have created such a wonderful community here, who would believe it. I'd like to win the Lotttery (hard cos i don't do it! ) and gather all our 365 friends together from across the world. What a time we'd have!! :-)
@Cherrill This was purely an online phenomenon! Maybe Loiuse can create a link to her book on Shutterfly where she created it. It really is worth sharing.
What a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful project! I really think it would be fantastic if this would connected to an online link. I absolutely love this idea...I think this is a project that I would enjoy doing. I don't know. I still feel myself looking for something more. I am sure that you will treasure this....and I hope you can share more.
That is so neat Allison. How nice of them to take all the time to make such a wonderful keepsake of travels. That is really nice, and I know youwill treasure that.
Allison, this is so wonderful!!! Louise is amazing!!! Thanks to her Flat Allie got to tour the world! I am sure you'll treasure the photos and the journal forever! :-)) Thank you for sharing with us!! :-)
This is way beyond fantastic! @Weezilou has the most amazing heart and it shines so brightly here in the 365 community. She wondered about all of the attention she got with our little photo project for her a while back but I see no reason to wonder at all. She is special and you guys have a beautiful friendship. How lucky!
What fun, after all this time, to see this little project on your desk instead of mine! You made it look pretty good here, Allie...thanks for being a travelin' buddy! @autumnseden out of the goodness of her heart, was the first to gather in the community to make a book for me, and I've been looking for a way to pay it forward ever since! It's such fun to read notes about swaps taking place and gifts being sent out, all because we've enjoyed one another's company around here! I'm willing to share the book's contents, but, Allie (F.A.), being so small, I'm afraid my mug ended up in every photo. I know you all like to know what's going on behind the scenes, so here it is http://365daysintheyear.shutterfly.com/ It's been a dormant site since last summer...maybe you'll inspire me to breathe a little life back into it again! @maggie2@ellen@cfitzgerald@harley84@anron@meggageg@kerristephens@sassyinthecity@slava@andifree (with bright memories of a little knit cap you sent for Ashton!) @melaniep@digitalrn@weshook@liipgloss (Wow! Good to see you again!) @nanascraps@chard (Who can forget the little motercycle you pictured on your page!) @mrssmith@indiannie_jones@timandelke@Cherrill (never met Allie, but was drawn to her little images last year on 365. You know this community...it doesn't take much more than a spark to set things in motion!) @parisouailleurs
My neice had a "Flat Rose" which traveled about with me for a week. I took pictures of her everywhere! I don't know what happened to Flat Rose after she left me, but this would be a great idea! That's some special friend you have!
Allison great shot & follow up to Flat Allie - I'm a bit behind with my comments & only just looked through your photo album on Shutterfly that Louise put up.
What a great idea - it turned out so well.
All good fun with 365 friends!
And what a lovely surprise to get in the post :)
