Although we officially don't start our teacher workdays til Wednesday most of the faculty was in place today, eager to get their rooms ready for next week when the students arrive. Unfortunately for the kindergarten teachers, things may not go as smoothly as they might hope. The contractors are still working on the renovations to several of the rooms, and all the classroom furnishings and equipment, much of which had been boxed and stored over the summer, have been dumped in the central hall. Rumor has it that some of the teachers cried when they arrived this morning. We all know that this too shall pass but meanwhile it is not the smooth transition we have come to expect at Collegiate.
Wow, looks like there's quite a bit to be done before classes begin! I'm sure that no matter what, everyone will figure out a way to work around/with the situation, but it will definitely be a challenge.
Tell them to hang in there. It could definitely be worse. As of two days before school one of our teachers didn't have a floor because hers had been removed due to it seeping gross brown stuff all the year before. They were trying to fix it but it was too humid for the glue to dry so she didn't get in until the day before school started. It was a mess but she is fine now and happy that she no longer has a mystery liquid oozing up through the tiles.
I certainly can sympathize with them. When I started teaching at Salem, they hadn't completed my room and the building inspector still had to approve it. For the first 6 weeks I taught in the lunchroom. I don't know who was more frustrated- me or the kids. But we managed somehow. Sure hope the work gets done quickly! At least when it's all completed they'll be able to look back at this collage and say, "Remember this?!"
