10,000 Steps

"Walking works - in a lot of ways. A regular routine of brisk-paced walking daily can help you lose weight, lower your cholesterol, strengthen your heart and reduce the likelihood of serious health problems down the road. And a brisk-paced walk can help you and your family look and feel better, increase energy and pick up your spirits too.
While any increase in walking will help promote good health, the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports recommends 30 minutes a day, on five or more days a week, or 10,000 steps daily, to produce the best, long-term health benefits for most individuals. This web site is designed to help you achieve this goal and more!"

Nov. 1 is the beginning of my school's fitness challenge. Anyone registered to participate was given a free pedometer. We are to keep track of our daily steps and record the weekly number on the Fitness website. The number of steps for each school division will be totaled and there will be prizes in various categories. Having tested it for a few days, I was amazed at how many steps I take in an average day. There is very little sitting down on the job for a teacher!
This is a wonderful goal! I wish you luck...and I'll cheer you on, too!

What a wonderful program for your school. Walking is so good. We have been doing this now for several months as part of our weight loss journey and it has helped a lot. Good luck with this for your school

We have one of these challenges running at the moment too - I'm a bit annoyed though - I walk miles during semester when I'm teaching, but at the moment it's admin time, so I barely even get time for a lunch break, let alone a walk! I hope you get more steps in than I do!

You're should it reads 10,000 steps a day..wow how many km is that and how long would it take? I reread this article and the 10,000 steps are not just for the walk but all the steps you take during a day..good luck with this program..hope you get many participants.
